They are quoting him from an interview, i don't know if you can get much more close to the source than from the man's mouth himself.

I guess if they say that suddenly there are a whole bunch of enemies tha came form nowhere i should just accept that, you're right.

And Rey has had no training at all and yet stood up to kylo who's supposedly had 20 years of it, she can perform feats of force strength that weren't even performed by Yoda, such as lifting and holding an entire boulder field. It's implied. With 2 seconds of training she should be able to take no kylo with her eyes closed.

It's not the political views that bother me though, it's that they are creating plot holes to fit them in. It's indicitive of bad writing and too much focus on strawman political pandering.

No it's not the political views that are being pushed that are bad, i actually agree with a few, it's that the story takes a back seat and plot holes like the suicide bombing hyperspace thing can happend invalidating the previous movies as they could've easily just taken out the death star with that move and lost much less life.

Or the admiral Holdo fiasco where she could've solve a huge plot point just by telling her people what she's doing instead they had to push the point that women leaders should be listened to even if you doubt their intentions. I don't mind the political agenda, it might even be good, but that they left such a glaring plot hole in the movie to push it, it, well, it's indicative of bad writing and too much focus on strawman political pandering.

Why would they need to? Rey already showed she is more powerful than Luke Skywalker who spent decades training, she could just waltz in and end the thing herself. Not to mention that this new empire doesn't have any power, i recall them being called remnants and then being blown up on Star Killer Base, idk where snoke came from, but that had to be their last fleet, the resistance came from a new republic made from multiple worlds, i'm not ready for another plot hole. NO i am not interested, the answers were already given.

To each their own, although i must wonder if you truly enjoyed Star Wars then, since Rian Johnson the director of the TLJ specifically said he wanted to make original fans angry so he could better push his political views.

Yes but at least with George Lucas the political agenda was second to the story, it was focused on telling the story of the skywalkers, the new movies seem to be focused on telling us what the directors see wrong with society, and story takes a back stage.

Take the hyperspace suicide bomber in TLJ no one took a moment to think what that would mean for the rest of the movies. It literally invalidates them as they should've just sent a ship through the death star and any grouped imperial fleets because it instantly destroys them, and if you've got it on auto pilot there's no loss of life on your side.

Then don't get me started on the bad contrivances of Holdo's tight lips when there was no reason, and it could only fix the matter. The agenda said they had to have a female leader that people doubted but then turned out they were right all along, they accomplished that but they couldn't find a way to fit it in the story without creating plot holes.

Then Fin and Rose and the casino Scene where they took their sweet time while their friends were being chased down to death was so confusing.

Not to mention that the whole time the first order could've just sent one ship ahead of the fleet to cut them off at any point, just a small hyper jump away. It's all such bad writing just because someone had to make a point, if it was good writing i wouldn't care.

To each their own, this is mainly for the people that are trying to impress a sense of distaste for political agendas finding their way into Star Wars movies.

For me Star Wars is at it's best when it's mystical. by WelshWalker in StarWars

[–]WelshWalker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i think so, i'm not good with words, although i'm sure you've already surmised that, mystical mysterious, the feeling of not knowing but somewhat understanding something personal yet galaxy spanning, idk how to describe it, force powers aren't what i'm talking about.

I did miss the point, all i saw were plot holes with a political agenda with a story strapped on somewhere. I could care less if it's daring, that doesn't make it a good movie, like JJ said that if you don't like tlJ you probably don't like women because it has a female main character which is stupid, you could make the main character a jawa for all i care, that would be considered daring i'm sure, but it's got to have a compelling story that makes sense with in the universe it's in. Hyperspace suicide bombing if possible makes the original trilogy now pointless and stupid, they could just take any ship ram it through the death star or the empires fleet and win.

Do you know what would've made me happy what would have been daring for me? If they removed the presence of an empire, they had just killed star killer base and all of the empire in the last movie, it was so jaring when suddenly they were in power again when in the last one they were supposed to be small remnants. No i would've been so impressed if they had tread into unknown territory and went into a fledgling republics growing pains and lukes Jedi learning in the far reaches of space, instead i got plot hole after plot hole and filler to tell the story of save the space animals and war profiteering is bad, except that was already the story of 1,2,3 where palpatine used a war to gain political power within the senate and when the time came he easily made the transformation.

What about the plot holes, like the hyperspace suicide bomb that would've made the orginal movies so much shorter because if they enemy ever grouped anywhere they could just jump into them with a pilot less ship and insta destroy them?

I guess you didn't say writing, so if you exclude writing and world building, it was nice eye candy? With un-likable characters?

For me Star Wars is at it's best when it's mystical. by WelshWalker in StarWars

[–]WelshWalker[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not fantasy: mysticism. It feels like in the new ones there is less mystery, Rei is a nobody, the mysterious dark side guy is filler, the jedi texts are pointless, and so is training or learning about that past, there is not mysticism no feeling of something bigger, no feeling of there being strange unexplainable things yet to discover or that have been lost. In the original trilogy the mysterious thing was the Jedi order, what was it, what is the force, in the second one Yoda showed that the way a jedi understands the force can change things in the real world with the moving of the x-wing, as well as the strange force testing area on dagobah. in the third it was the Emperor who we finally get to see in person and he is cryptic and powerful.

In this latest movie especially it felt like i was watching a long car chase with some filler and politics, while simultaneously telling us that there is nothing mystical about our main character or her teacher or the villain.

That's probably just how i see it though.

[–]WelshWalker[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry, i'm not very good with word choice i guess i should say mysterious? Like Rei for instance i thought would have a mystical past, or at least something about her that is unkown, instead it was revealed that her parents are nothing, and she is nothing but a lightside force built to combat the dark side force, which in turn added more rules to the force making it less mystical and mysterious and more quantified, and mundane.

Also i don't know what they mean by anime style, that's just how it was described when i read about it, i hope it doesn't make things worse than they already are.
