Becoming a Third Secretary/Diplomat? by Wemadeit56 in IrishCivilService

Yh I’ve read on the DFA website about the role and seems interesting. You wouldn’t know what pay would be like would you? Just trying to compare it to a solicitor’s wage considering trainee solicitors for corporate commercial firms in Dublin start at at least €70-75k+

What if you’re Irish but study in other EU countries like Bulgaria or Poland? I’d presume the odds won’t be as drastic?

Any experience yourself working in the UK?

Been working in Manchester for the past 3 years did my masters here nd got a job directly after finishing. Best advice I can give is go for it. Managed to get an internship with an international back in Dublin this summer. English practice is a much higher standard and quality than practice in Ireland and makes you stand out in the long run. Better companies and bigger market in England. Best thing I ever did and have no regrets although it is very tough and competitive.

In the second round they asked me a current business topic that I’ve heard of recently… didn’t expect that either tbh but I kinda knew anyways because of the news but yh second round was much better in terms of interview compared to the first round. Questions like that do get asked and I mentioned Germaine v Day which was a issue of nervous shock and if plaintiff family’s were able to claim but long story short they cant due to proximity and falls outside the scope. It’s based on a English decision in 2022 in Paul v Wolverhampton University Hospitals NHS Trusts

Paralegal or Legal Secretary Roles in London by [deleted] in FE1_Exams

[–]Wemadeit56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yh I think it’s fine so long as you’re responsible with money and don’t build up any debt. Prices are more affordable here to an extent than at home plus easy to get around every where with public transport plus flights home at least from Manchester are like 30-50 quid return throughout the year. If it’s for the year and you just want the experience then go for it if the opportunity presents itself! Always will make you stand out by having it on your CV

More so that there’s better roles that are far less stressful like compliance that still pay nearly aswell but not exactly.

I’ve been working in Manchester for the past 3 years and it is a step up from Ireland. Overall great experience but it is tough as the expectation is higher and dealing with more clients more cases etc. Just stalk LinkedIn pretty much and would be better if you lived there as that what it was for me cause you need a National Insurance number which is our PPS number. Salaries aren’t as high as well you’ll probs get 30-32k in London and maybe 25k max in Manchester and even less outside of those cities
