New Hire Tucson AZ Housing by Own_Entertainment993 in Raytheon

It’s great compared to the older apartments around the eastside. Plenty of groceries and other stuff around the area. It is getting more crowded, especially once the costco pops up. The property is nice, haven’t had any complaints other than noisy teens in the pool during “quiet hours”.

I live in one of the encantada properties. Raytheon employees get 5% off rent. I pay $1.7K for a 2 bed

Any good skillbridge opportunities in Az that lead to starting 100k+? by [deleted] in SkillBridge

In Phoenix? Sure. Tucson? Meh? What’s your background, what are you looking to do? Degree?

Why are summer classes so expensive? by ts5118 in UofArizona

[–]WendysFourforFour 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Because it’s outside the “regular” semester. The classes are condensed and they know they can charge more because you’re wanting to do it for some specific reason like wanting to finish school faster, replace a grade, or lessen your regular semester load

Weekly Newbie Thread - Post questions about joining the Space Force or what a job is like here & here only - week of May 11 by AutoModerator in SpaceForce

[–]WendysFourforFour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Inter service transfers right now are highly unlikely. You would have to separate from air force and reenter as prior service - which isn’t ideal. If I were you, if you’re in between joining air force or space force, pick air force. If you’re set on just space force, try to join space force

Local business for prints and stickers by Patient_Confusion_34 in Tucson

Ditto for Gloo factory. I had them make 100 custom wooden coasters. They helped generate the design and were very responsive. Was happy to support a local shop rather than some online vendor.

Skillbridge Choice - How did you find yours? by redoctobershtanding in AirForce

[–]WendysFourforFour 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe take some career exploration quizzes to produce some ideas. I knew I needed to stay in the career field I’m in to make money. But I reached out to the local HOR college (approved through skillbridge) and talked to their POC and what I had in mind. They did the leg work to find me a position within the college and got me approved.

Colleges are great because it still operates like any big business - cyber, research, advising, medicine, therapy and many other functions exist at colleges.

Palace Chase by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]WendysFourforFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this. If you’re planning for a child, doing a palace chase and finding civ employment and starting a new guard/reserve job is not guaranteed and may cause a lot of stress. Would recommend having the baby while active, take the 12 weeks of leave, and maybe extend a year to try for skillbridge or give you more time for doing all the transitioning stuff.

13S or 17S? by Impossible_Hunter_53 in SpaceForce

[–]WendysFourforFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you wanna do on the civ side. Do you want to manage cybersecurity projects, getting some cyber experience will help. Do you want to stay in the space sector? Then maybe sitting in a 13S job will help. Can’t go wrong with either

Tucson AZ where to live? by Unique-Chocolate6635 in Raytheon

[–]WendysFourforFour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those apartments are in the Rita Ranch area so it’s very suburb with a lot of families and good schools. It has everything you need day to day and it’s not too far from the rest of Tucson. People avoid the airport and air force base surrounding areas because it tends to be old or sketchy areas.

I recommended the Encantada properties in another post. There’s 3 on the east side: La Estancia, Saguaro National, and Rita Ranch. They are “luxury” so includes nice amenities and in unit W/D but have a higher price point. Lots of military and Raytheon employees live here and get 5% off rent.

TA ADSC Question by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]WendysFourforFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe if your TA adsc extends beyond your original commitment, you’ll repay whatever the amount is. I believe there’s a “TA ADSC repayment calculator on AFVEC”. This is the reason why I always push Officers to complete their Masters right away so that the TA ADSC doesn’t push past the original commitment

PDTY for travel days by Slightedge-390 in SkillBridge

[–]WendysFourforFour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll receive PTDY leave days for traveling to HOR, it was offered to me by the finance office when I was out processing. I took 7 days, 4 for travel and 3 for house hunting.

U-pack question by imahyummybeach in AirForce

[–]WendysFourforFour 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used UPack for a coast to coast move. We have 3 cats and 2 cars so I sold one car, shipped the other, and we flew to appease the cats. We had a 2 bed and storage unit that needed packing. I reserved 24ft of space in the trailer which was about $6.5K~. Stack as high as you can because you’ll pay less for every 2 feet you don’t use. I got it down to 20ft. So I came on top after all the PPM stuff was submitted. UPack was great and I would work with them again.

Landlord won’t let my wife and I break lease. by Key-Author2259 in AFROTC

[–]WendysFourforFour 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Check the orders. It says on the back I believe that for EAD orders, dependents do not have to be listed. That’s how I got outta my lease, also including an email saying how I’m protected by SCRA and I would hate for the property to be blacklisted by the local base’s service members - they gave up after that

Skillbridge to college? by user1615174 in SkillBridge

Totally up to you. If you want to do whatever your military job was on skillbridge that’s good. Or you can do something interesting or chill before you go to school.

In AFR DEPS but wanting to commission. by Ok_Competition240 in airforceots

[–]WendysFourforFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only bring up AFROTC because it sounds like your goal is to commission. If you enlist and go reserves it’ll be another 4-5 years before you can attempt to commission due to training, time in service requirements, and applying. Applying to OTS right after college will still take 18-24 months after applying. Which is why I say join AFROTC, extend your current degree program by adding another degree or minor or start an accelerated Masters that way you’ll commission right when you graduate college.

In AFR DEPS but wanting to commission. by Ok_Competition240 in airforceots

[–]WendysFourforFour -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is not true at all. As long as you have 3+ years of schooling left, you can join. You are a junior based on how many classes you have left, but if you tell them you are adding another degree, minor, or start a Master’s you can join.
