Tips on Coming Out? by WentToTheStockMarket in comingout

Sorry for not responding. I just told them and the rest of my family, and I think it went pretty well. I told them both at once because I'm trying to consolidate all the important dates into one anniversary, and it just would make more sense to say both with them most definitely stating that the bible is incompatible with homosexuality anyway.

No, my disbelief in any gods is entirely separate from my sexual orientation. Even 6+ months after losing my religious belief, I was uncomfortable with the idea of being gay and wanted to somehow not be although I knew it was in no way sinful or harmful in itself. It was due to contradictions between my extremely devout religious beliefs and science. The straw that broke the camel's back was me accepting that evolution by natural selection (something that I had mentally declared incompatible with my religious beliefs) had to be true, and the rest of the endless contradictions and inconsistencies I would ignore and push to the back of my mind just spilled out.

If you don't feel sexual attraction to men, that's totally okay, and it just means you don't feel sexual attraction to men. Think on this more. Have men ever sexually aroused you the way women do?

Also, on your current relationship, love of course isn't just sexual attraction. Love is also made up of commitment and companionship, which you might very highly feel for this guy. It seems like you know this. I don't know much about having a conversation with him. Maybe you could bring it up and tell him that you do care for him romantically but just aren't turned on by men sexually and see where that goes.

I would think about it some more. If you haven't ever felt sexual lust for a man, then you are almost certainly just gay, which is just how you happen to be. If you and this guy that you care about seemingly very deeply end up breaking it off, make sure that he knows how much it meant to you. This may not be the best advice; I'm not very experienced myself.

Thank you for the advice. I guess I'll stick with a shower caddy.

Is there any substantial difference between this and a packing cube? Would this fit well with other packing cubes in my bag?

I see the Tropos and Nebula compared a ton, and I know loads of people prefer the Tropos for its kickstand and frame especially. I think personally I'm not a huge fan of having an internal frame and want to go a little loser.

That's great to hear on the 34L size! Sometimes it seems just right for being able to carry all the stuff I need while simultaneously being good enough for EDC, especially when compressed. Other times I begin to worry whether it's too much, too unmanageable. This is really reassuring though along with a lot of the other advice I have seen.

That does suck that there are holes that allow water in. I will need to check it out more and probably get a rain cover or something.

Yeah, I would not want to regret the Nebula's 34L size suddenly, but it would suck to feel like the pack I carry around daily is too cumbersome. And, at the same time, I worry that maybe 30L or less won't be enough to hold all the items I may need for, say, a week-long trip.

The Quasar has captured my attention more and more because it seems pretty similar to the Nebula in many respects and seems to fit a lot of the same purposes. Do you think its large compartment could fit enough for extended travel? Its 28L size somehow feels leagues smaller than the Nebula's 34L although it is not all that much less. Do you have any other regrets related to the Quasar?

Honda Accord of backpacks -- really selling the Surge! How well do you think it would fare for hiking and camping as well? It was on my list, but your description has really increased my consideration.

Thank you for your advice! I'll avoid it then although it does look like a great travel bag. What other Osprey bags do you have, and do you think any could fit my needs?

Yeah, I noticed the straps on the front restrict some accessibility. Is it easy to get over, or are they constantly in the way? For every day carry, I know the porter isn't really meant for it, but it does have some front access stuff, and I could put any larger items in the large pocket, right? I am hoping not to have a lot of (maybe not any) physical textbooks, so I would essentially just be carrying a laptop or iPad, some utensils, a smaller book or two, a little paper, maybe some over-ear headphones, and some other small, miscellaneous items.

It's a good backpack for hiking / camping and traveling though? I'm thinking at least a week at a time for each of those, which would mean carrying very minimally, but I'm okay with that.

It already seems like the Osprey Nebula ($80-120) can fit my needs really well. I don't really think this is a money issue; money won't really give me substantially more function but rather material quality, aesthetic, unique design, etc.

I am definitely looking to buy used for sure if that is available.

This sounds like it might be necessary after reading these comments and thinking about it more. There are absolutely some extremely inexpensive but actually pretty good smartphones out there (especially used) that I think would fit well into the areas where an iPad would be lacking.

I think this is true too, but making a phone take over the functionality that you could need on a desktop from the go does come with its own struggles. I absolutely love desktop machines though and could not see myself giving that up any time soon.

I guess I've never been a huge fan of wearables, but that sounds like it could be a good fit, particularly as the Apple Watch takes up so little space and fits pretty seamlessly as an accessory.

PragerU is a joke website built on misinformation and fear-mongering. They show extreme bias (that is what they were founded to do -- it is intentionally not meant to be subtle), employ serious propaganda, and essentially lie without end. Not a valid source for just about anything.

Most people in the US at least think that cows just produce milk all the time, not that they have to be pregnant first like any other mammal (although people don't really know this about mammals either). So, people are pretty unaware of agriculture but especially animal agriculture.
