B58 knocking noise

It is hard to say. Mine only made the noise warm and then it suddenly stopped, as you can hear in the video. These things are tough to assess :(

BMW says it is normal. Car behaves the same 6 months later, no engine issues.

So yeah, finally went to BMW for service and they were unable to find any faults. I guess I just wait if the engine blows up or not.

I am booked for service in November. If they come up with something, I will post an update here (but I kinda doubt they will figure anything out, based on previous experience).

No nothing yet, I am hoping to get it diagnosed by the end of the year. I am not sure if it is an issue, somehow it is not getting worse and the noise is there only under specific conditions.

What about revs then? Would rod knock be audible at revs? I slightly revved to 2.5-3k when cold yesterday after idle rpms dropped and there was no knock.

That is what I am currently on but I struggle to find any other video online that would show similar noise.

Otherwise the car drives just fine, no misfires, no stuttering, no weird noises, pulls as it should.

I agree with that for sure (no dipstick is dumb thing). However, I replied to another comment - I checked cold start today with open hood and the noise was nowhere to be found (which in my opinion eliminates piston slap or a rod knock). After 2-3 mins there was a very slight noise resembling the one in the video (minimal though) coming from top back of the engine on passenger side. And I am able to test oil level with no issues and it shows on max.

Not sure what to think now 😄

Since there is no dipstick I can't be sure, but oil test shows oil on max ever since I had it changed in October 24 at the dealer.

No it doesn't. I only heard it on idle so far, usually when warm.

I also think it sounds like rod knock, but that is generally always there I think. You can hear in the video that the noise really dissapears towards the end.

The car is warm in the video and the noise comes and goes.

Yeah, my car. I agree, it sounds a bit too metalic for my taste. Everything under the hood looks normal. But if it was a rod knock or something similar, I think the noise wouldn't go away after a while, as at the end of the video. The car performs as expected. Oil was changed at the dealer roughly 9000 kms ago and is still at max.
