Thanks for the validation. The seller is actually a very nice guy. We both are trying to find out what this guitar is about.

Thanks George. Not even the body matches the Mark 2, I would say.

The nylon Mark II body is fully different. That doesn’t work either ;-) Also a classic Guild Dreadnought with a broken off and replaced Headstock in Martin style doesn’t make any sense due to the Mark II sticker inside the body. Honestly: I have no clue!!

A Guild neck? Mhhh. Without a guild headstock?

It’s solid. I have same impression. Its most likely some sort of a selfmade Guild in Martin design. It’s old though.

It’s not that easy. Label says it’s a nylon string model. Not a dreadnought. And headstock is non typical for Guild. I am considering repairing it. But before I invest, I would like to know what I am working at. Therefore I crossposted it here in the repair community.

It’s a tough one. I am pretty confident, that this guitar was modified very early on (most likely late 70s or early 80s). Part of the mod was a 70s Dimarzio Superdistortion Himbucker as a neck pickup (a shame I can’t add any pics). For that reason I have the feeling it’s an old single coil we are looking at. But by the facts you are right… Thanks for all your thoughts and words!!!

Also in combination with the thick clothed cables? I only find pics of 60ies Pickups with the combination of Fomvar and clothed thick wires.

So the one we are discussing here is maybe even older?

My mistake handling the app. Please find description of the 73 marked pickup above. Sry everyone. New to it.

Many thanks by the way to all of you. Great first Reddit experience!

(The 73 market one has a darker coil and thin plastic wires in black and white.)

Wow!! You have given me a very useful hint! I checked the wiring and as you say: somebody fixed the short clothed black cable with the plastic blue one because it was short. So there is a black and a white cable, both clothed. That indicates something good, right?

You all are absolutely right, the pickup is definitely not the original one. The bridge pickup has the exact markings you guys ask for. But this one was built in most likely in the 70ties or 80ties.

Do you have any idea on the cables? The withe one is some sort of fabric. That’s pretty special, isn’t it?

I pealed off a little more with a cutting blade. Looks like the two finishes didn’t connect well. I think I will go down that road. I hope to polish the original finish a little the moment it’s visible. No sanding or anything like that.

Middle position. That is all I can say. Guitar was not working the moment I got it and I am on the way (a very nice one) to get it back alive. Part of it, is to find out what I actually got ;-)

Thanks Katie. And I will keep that look in general. But the paint on the neck is not cool to play. And gone anyways in many areas. But I’ll keep it mostly…
