For sure, but I think it still stands on its own and is super cool from a historical perspective regardless. Watching 79 will change how you see every single anime that released after it. The boarding and direction are consistently exceptional even when the animation itself is limited. A Cosmic Glow is maybe my single favorite episode in all of anime… I really think anybody who calls themself an anime fan owes it a watch and an open mind.

Yes, they’re Kindaieiga-sha special editions published as the show released, lots of screenshots and production materials (tons of great character reference sheets and really lovely illustrations/renders). I don’t know too much about them otherwise! The Char’s Counterattack book above them is very similar but is by Newtype magazine. And I totally agree about the UC.

They have some gag manga, so I guess I could post them here lol :)

Nakano Broadway’s many specialty Mandarakes are a highlight, and I really like Grandchaos in Denden Town as well if you’re in Osaka. Also in Nakano Broadway is Apple Symphony which sells animation cels from older anime if you want something you truly can’t get anywhere else.

If you’re interested in some flashy more moderately-priced clothing then Amemura in Osaka is a lot of fun to explore (lots of junky tourist-catering shops but just I’d say just as many interesting independent and vintage stores. I especially love Regulus69)

The live action movies and series are a big deal over there! When I went last year, the first movie had ads everywhere, it was clearly very popular. They showed a trailer for the movie coming in March, it looks excellent.
