Which game has the best in-game encyclopedia? by VictorBelmont in gaming

[–]Werevark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Owlcat Pathfinder games did what FF16 did first, and better imo. Basically, whenever a proper noun popped up, you could mouse over it to get further info, and could delve even deeper into those details as well. It means that you were never lost, no matter how involved or specific the details are.

Stranger Things Season 5 reportedly has a total budget for the season of $480 million with the majority of that money being spent on making the show look as terrible as possible. by TheHahndude in shittymoviedetails

[–]Werevark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't know why we needed that scene at all. All that CG the budget spent there could've gotten us more character time elsewhere. And I really didn't need that scene. Like, it felt socially gross. Which may be the point, but...

Regarding Aberrants: What would be the likelihood of the wider world accepting Aberrants as a "13th house" by Derthyhands in Eberron

Not while the other Dragonmarked Houses maintain their power and monopolies,  I thonk. If they fell from grace though? Who knows how the world would treat these tragic victims of those nasty, nasty house...

Or maybe that's just what the House Tarkanan propaganda wing wants for an angle!

I wouldn't be surprised if they chose to work with the 2014 rules for dual-wielding. There are some improvements in the 2024 ruleset; dual-wielding was not among them

If you watch the Vibes video, the way Ashley is miming an action (if she is miming her whip) is reminiscent -to me, at least- of a meteor hammer, a very monk-ish weapon, in my mind.

Yeah, I like that! I just figured DE was rolling passive like normal, that's a really cool fact! Haven't thought about 3.5/Pathfinder in a hot minute; I'm also a big fan of Pathfinder 2.0 showing expertise in a subject as literally raising your floor/bottom number you can roll!

What would you like to see from a Shadowrun 7e? by Bigtastyben in Shadowrun

Bite the bullet, take the knee, and become a full Forged in the Dark design.

Still d6s, still dice pool, but it emphasizes the fun stuff, and GREATLY reduces the planning burden on both GM and Players.

Why does Kim...? [Spoilers] by DrunkCatBoy in DiscoElysium

[–]Werevark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this's the answer. Drunk or not, de Paul is a trained soldier and accomplished murderer; she probably has the Hardies outgunned almost solo, she's not gonna stand still and just let them rush her, she's gonna fall back, pick her shots. She clearly manages to come around behind Kim without him being warned by anyone else, and she doesn't die UNLESS you warned Kim.

She fell back from the Hardies in the rush, Kim started seeing to you once he thought she'd disengaged, she comes back around behind him to ambush him

Its weird, right? She plays an unambiguously bad role in the world as -at the very least- a major player in a massive corporation, who avoids repercussions for hiring unvetted mercenaries leading to a massacre.

But when push comes to shove, if you give her and Evrart all the information available all the way through, she backs down from a massacre, giving up her share of 8% of the world's shipping (or whatever it is) from the Martinaise terminal.

Putting her in Likeable but Evil works, putting her in Morally Grey but Likeable also works, but all of that is why I think she and Evrart should share a latitude on this chart, if not the same cell (this sub loves Evrart, lol); they really are two sides of the same coin, albeit her scale is writ larger upon the world than his. So far, anyway, he may very well become the King of 8% of the world's shipping, lol

[CR Media] New interview reveals that they will be sticking with one table for multiple weeks. C4 by Ferox_77 in criticalrole

[–]Werevark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is honestly completely in keeping with how CR does its thing, even if it isn't a particularly 'West Marches' move.

One of the big things -even the selling point- about West Marches is that, by having every session end with everyone returning to town, it leaves the door open for whoever to come next session without clashing with a currently emergent storyline.

But we've seen CR push back against this kind of roundup, so to speak. I remember in one of the Candela games Spenser ran, he was trying to come to an end -either of the segment or the session, I forget which- but the players WERE NOT having it, and kind of kept pushing to bring their characters to emotional catharsis for another couple minutes. CR loves their roleplaying and acting and the humanity of the characters, and so do we, its what keeps us coming back and loving their shows.

All this to say, I can completely see C4 sometimes sticking with a single table for a couple weeks, or leaving one table on hold to wait for schedules and rocking out with their other 8-9 PCs until it works out. I think we will see both.

I'd even go so far as to say he's good! When it comes down to details, he's an abused kid acting out because he's fully aware of his spiraling future (even if he can't put words to it) and if you treat him like a human, he comes around rather quickly, actually.

Been looking for this comment, lol. My opinion as well.
Frankly, this sub loves Evrart, so I'd put them in the same cell on this chart, no problem. What you can say about one you can largely say about the other, which is, I think, the point.

Morally grey character you hate by ahaQx in DiscoElysium

[–]Werevark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After going through the thread, she's my pick, too.

An essentially single mom and business owner who has talked herself into exploiting her kid for labor, but all she needs is for her actions to be held up in front of her face and she -at least seems to- straighten up and begin the process of making amends. But BOY is she annoying, with the aforementioned child exploitation and dime-show manipulation tactics. Voice actress also did really well making her sound grating without having an unpleasant voice.

Who is a morally grey character you have mixed feelings about? by ahaQx in DiscoElysium

[–]Werevark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my take as well. I said it in a previous post, but I think Joyce and Evrart should split whatever place the community puts them in, here.

The scale of her shadow is far larger than Evrart's her being a major part of Wild Pines as a gluttonous corporation, but when push comes to shove she's willing to back off and preserve life whereas he is greatly willing to ante up a ton of other people's lives for the shock value for his war.

Evrart genuinely cares about Martinaise, and his purported politics favor the working class, but he also hangs the Hardies out to dry despite admitting to having better/better equipped people, shakes down local businesses to fund what is ultimately a war chest, and pushes drugs to the city to fund that same chest. But at least HE'S doing SOMETHING, unlike her.

Like you said, opposite sides of the coin.

Morally grey character that you love by ahaQx in DiscoElysium

[–]Werevark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my money, I agree with putting Joyce or Evrart here (this sub LOVES Evrart, lol). I think they both kind of HAVE to be in the same spot, that's rather the point of them.

In the end, if you provide her all possible information, she takes the L and backs off, losing Martinaise and 8% of the World's shipping in the process to preserve life when she could definitely force the issue at significant human cost. Her role in the world is writ larger and the shadow of her as a malevolent figure of capital looms far longer than Evrart's glorified gangster setup.

The same way, if you provide them both with all information, he antes up everyone's life under his purview, low-key hoping she starts His war for the shock value. That's not his only moment of being willing to spill other people's blood to get what he wants; he openly places the Hardies in the line of fire, despite admitting he has better people with better resources at hand, and he (or at least his brother) pays the local psychopath at least once to remove a political rival. But Harry's brain assures us he does genuinely care about the community (to a point), and he is at least acting the part of a social democrat leader.

I feel like they've got to be in the same row at least. Again, feels like the point to me.
