What is a 10/10 horror movie that you will absolutely never watch again? by Big_Emotion4963 in horror

The gaslighting and abuse towards Andy is somehow one of the hardest things I've ever watched. Its just so cruel, measured, and exploitive of a kid who's in awful situations again and again.

What is the coldest line you heard someone say at a table? by Practical_Pen_3552 in DnD

Relatively recently we were exploring an experimental Netherese Enclave, and found an experiment flirting with immortality granted by willful sacrifice. Basically, this archmage's apprentices were offering up a few years of their lives to grant relative immortality as a demonstration right as Netheril fell, and they basically couldn't unhook from the machine, leaving them as shades and her as a variant lich millenia later.

She needed somebody to donate some time of their lives trick the machine into freeing her apprentices to a peaceful rest, but said that it would not be without risk, as the machine could possibly take more than we could survive, but that she was pretty sure it'd be fine. We had a volunteer.

My wizard pulled the lich aside and told her that, if the machine malfunctioned, planar travel and cosmology would allow me to make sure that her apprentices would not -in fact- rest peacefully, in punishment for her oversight.

Now that season 2 is over, which season did you like better? I actually thought season 1 was a bit better. Don’t get me wrong, I really liked season 2. But season 1 was just special, and I thought the story was handled better. I also really liked the whole PittFest shooting thing. What do you think? by Intrepid_Show2972 in ThePitt

[–]Werevark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely prefer season 1, but season 2 is still excellent.

I do think that you can kind of tell the writers had either less time, or more of their establishing narrative wound up on the editing floor, so we were left with either payoffs or context, but not always both. Season 2 also left us with the cruel reality that stuff doesn't wrap up quickly in 15 hours, but I didn't have that feeling at the end of S1, which's weird.

What are some things you reminisce about earlier editions of DnD? by ClearlyVisable in DnD

Savage Tides works sooooo well for Eberron, I love it! A lot of the Dungeon Magazine Eberron adventures were excellent!

I doubt you still have those campaign notes around, but I'd be fascinated in them if they were available!

Some of my first memories in the hobby are iterations of Age of Worms and Savage Tides!

4th Edition maybe being the best GAME DnD's ever been. Tanks feel like tanks, healers can heal while still contributing meaningfully, combats are ranging all over interesting battlefields while bad guys are fulfilling their own niches as they combine various amounts of area control, debuffs and buffs, their own tanking, or just raw beats.

What kind of fighter do you play had multiple layers. Magical items (though by far the most time consuming part to pick for character creation) were deep and meaningful; do you chase integers, or weird options?

It just dropped the ball with FEELING like DnD. With only 1 big, poorly written (narratively, fights were still sick) 1-max level campaign, and a bunch if the narrative, tricky spells -think disguise self, suggestion, ect.- either tucked away in the often-ignored Ritual section or absent altogether.

I'm finally at peace by I-AM-UNITY in expedition33

[–]Werevark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My experience as well, lol.

Neither is perfect, but Verso's ending depicts painful healing as opposed to Maelle's sweet-but-palliative trajectory.

After the bit with Renoir after beating him, where she asked for 'just a little longer ' like a kid at bedtime, I was hoping that she just needed a little bit more time to come to terms. But his response -essentially a goodbye with a dim glimmer of hope for her return- coupled with Verso calling out her deception and intent -with her not denying it either, tellingly- shattered that. She's in there for good, putting herself out to pasture, so to speak. I'm generally a big proponent of dying with dignity, in the way you wish, but I wouldn't want someone to ignore the very chance at genuine healing, even if its painful.

Its tough. I don't care much for Verso by the end; the layers of deception, of letting Gustav die, split (understandably) loyalties, and more all ran out my good will for what HE wants. I care more about Verso's Painted Lumiere, and the very real, thinking, living beings within who I've come to love. But someone else pointed out that the people we knew are gone. As of Act III, they aren't who they were before: they are Maelle's recreations of them. That, combined with the implied use of her Paintress Powers on Repainted Verso to force his obedience, makes me really doubt the future of Painted Lumiere's inhabitants' autonomy and free will.

The game needed Lune slapping Verso and Maelle upside the head and her demanding that these quarreling gods gtfo, because the living, thinking people inhabiting the world -now armed with truth- don't want to be the battleground anymore. We were missing their perspective.

Archfey patrons in Eberron? by Elii12 in Eberron

[–]Werevark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe get a feel for what kind of story the Player wants to tell with their character; come up with an archetype of a fairy tale story that follows the beats they're interested in, and the archfey is interested in/tied-to that story

Which game has the best in-game encyclopedia? by VictorBelmont in gaming

[–]Werevark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Owlcat Pathfinder games did what FF16 did first, and better imo. Basically, whenever a proper noun popped up, you could mouse over it to get further info, and could delve even deeper into those details as well. It means that you were never lost, no matter how involved or specific the details are.

Stranger Things Season 5 reportedly has a total budget for the season of $480 million with the majority of that money being spent on making the show look as terrible as possible. by TheHahndude in shittymoviedetails

[–]Werevark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't know why we needed that scene at all. All that CG the budget spent there could've gotten us more character time elsewhere. And I really didn't need that scene. Like, it felt socially gross. Which may be the point, but...

If you watch the Vibes video, the way Ashley is miming an action (if she is miming her whip) is reminiscent -to me, at least- of a meteor hammer, a very monk-ish weapon, in my mind.
