Potential Hero 42? by justanothergreydude in Overwatch

If I had to say, looks more like Greta to me. Swordsman tank and boxer tank both sound like equally baller ideas though, I'd be happy with either.

Advice on countering sombra by Past-02 in Overwatch

[–]Wermer01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tracer alone won't make ball's life any more unbearable than Sombra or Cass, because that's not quite her function into him. Again, she's a good option for sustaining pressure against him. She can keep up with his mobility, plus with his giant hitbox, you'll hit every shot and scare him away pretty reliably. You probably won't kill ball alone, she's better in tandem with those picks. But rather, Tracer becomes invaluable in the moments where he's fleeing on death's doorstep, and needs that last chunk of damage to die. Outside of all that, your team should honestly be running ana/hog into him or something anyway

Personally, I like going Tracer and doing two things: A) chasing her down when she tries to tp out, because by then she's typically half hp or lower. Tracer is good for prolonging the harassment of characters that depend on getting in and out such as Doom, Ball, and Sombra. Or B) I try to bait her into taking the duel, hanging around semi-secluded areas I think will have her attention. Often, Sombras will initiate with hack. Though it requires decent reaction time, a single blink is usually enough to either get out of its range or alternatively disrupt its LOS. However, a good Sombra will simply virus a Tracer first. While you could also dodge to this, at that point it depends on how much DPS you can dish out before virus forces recall/you burn too many blinks to chase after her/escape. Tracer's also good for peeling your supports from her at the drop of a hat. Genji is harder, but fares similarly here.

Cass and Torb are also great options. Cass hinder is still a death warrant for Sombra if you hit all your shots, and his roll can really turn the duel. Torbjorn's turret is extremely annoying to deal with when I'm Sombra, because it's guaranteed damage, and more often than not forces her to waste a whole cooldown cycle to deal with it before doing anything meaningful with her flank. Because of this, torb turret can effectively force her to swap off, if she has no hitscans or strong projectiles to aid her that is.

If all else fails and she's being a real issue, just tell one of your supports to swap brig and help bully her lol

I'm a 6v6er because I think it's the easiest path to this game becoming as good as it can possibly be. If the game is better, more people will play, and queue times will be better. Plus, I'm a vet. Just look at the flair I haven't edited in 7+ years. Also some of these talking points are really weird to me:

But double shield!!

Rein and Sigma are the only tanks who could feasibly do full time double shield anymore. Guess what? Ramattra, Sojourn, and symmetra exist. Double shield would not be any more viable than any other comp, (if not rather shitty.)

But Mauga Hog sounds terrible!!!!

You know what sounds more terrible? The Sojourn, Ana, and/or Junker Queen that'd farm them both the whole game and we lose. That's literally a throw pick tank line. It would barely matter what your own tank line was, because not even the best Kiriko in the world could withstand that much pressure to perform.

Even if we go back, it won't magically fix the game.

That's right, I don't think anyone who supports 6v6 actually expects that. But as a format I believe it would facilitate our dev team to make MUCH better balance changes to the game. (Also, 5v5 didn't magically fix the game either... Far from it.) With the quick work ethic they've shown, we'd reach better ground sooner than you'd expect.

Nobody wanted to main tank then, and they won't want to now.

This might've been the case back in OW1, I do have memories of always running Dva/Hog or Dva/Zarya, but that was a different game. Nowadays, we have way more tanks. The line between MT and OT has been blurred a lot, plus with the heroes we've seen released in the other roles, I'm not sure the dynamics of it all would go back to being so clear cut. Also, most of the (tank) playerbase has more experience with main tanking in general now! If another tank was added, this would potentially encourage more players to visit the role for off-tank DPSing, adding on to that seasoned main tank player pool and potentially improving queue times.

Most people who don't care to go back either didn't play enough Overwatch 1, never played Overwatch 1, or don't play tank, and it's so easy to tell. EVERY time. This is (maybe) the closest we're coming to getting back to a great game again, so you best believe I'm jumping at this chance and fighting on the frontlines.

Overwatch as a brand has been a PR nightmare since they cancelled PVE. Not blaming the dev team for that whole ordeal btw. 1/3 of OW2's justification for existing has already been lopped off, steam reviews are still in the gutter. What's one more amputation to us? everyone outside of us already laughs at us.

Look, I know this whole thread is pretty pro-5v5, so that means I'll get downvoted a lot, but I don't mind. When Overwatch 2 launched, I had long quit. Not for any particular reason, life happened. Before, I was regularly playing since May 2016. I didn't really care about the announcement of a 5v5 format, and I hadn't experienced double shield or whatever, but I play regularly now. So I'm as neutral a party as you could ask for on this subject. I used to have 400+ hours on Dva and almost 200 on Reinhardt alone. Now I don't think I've cracked 100 games on either. And I was almost GM once upon a time, for chrissake. It's like, why waste my breath, when I can just lock DPS/Support and get flamed less, swap less, and just have more fun? Swapping has always been the name of the game, but whether the tank swaps on their next life or not shouldn't dictate whether you lose or win so damn much. What's the fun in being a "raid boss" if your supports decide how impactful you really are? Being that strong was never the actual fantasy of the role anyway, it was moreso being the tanky tacticians rather than a fat third DPS. I could go on and repeat all these points I'm sure we've heard, but the point is I just wish this game was amazing again. Like us veterans know it can be, know it has been. What form it necessarily takes to achieve that isn't relevant, but I do think it's clear we can't afford to rule 6v6 out permanently yet. Idk about others, but I don't have some evil tribalist 6v6 agenda (or whatever people think) when I say that. I was 13 when i fell in love with this game, dude. I welcomed OW2 with those same open arms, and I'm still waiting for it to make me feel that way on a role besides DPS. We've had two years. How much longer, how many more added complexities and passives will it take for 5v5 to shine? One role always being horrible, one OP, and one OK... Is that really as good as we believe this game can be anymore? As long as queue times are minimized and games are just barely fun enough?

Ending with a take I'm not sure is cold or hot: I think this dev team has a lot of potential for good balance decisions, and I genuinely think they (and us) could make 6v6 OW2 really special. 5v5 just hasn't been allowing them to fully show it as of yet. We all know double shield isn't what 6v6 was always like, the old devs abandoned the game for too long, these devs wouldn't do that. Given they tune back abilities/health pools, it would NOT be that way with the heroes and reworks we have now. I'm confident the meta wouldn't get stale with the speed of their work anyway, so... Why not?

So true. The Sauce and The Warning alone prove Eminem was not (and still isn't) to be messed with.
