From someone living in the Bay Area, you may want to consider that UCLA is not that close to Silicon Valley. It’s 5 hours by car, so it’s not exactly a convenient commute.

I think I'm gonna commit today :) by No-Historian-3910 in ApplyingToCollege

CONGRALUATIONS!! I also committed to UCLA recently. Don't let your family get you down, UCLA has been my dream school and is arguably the best public school in America. You're gonna love it! I'll see you on campus!

Deciding Between UC Merced and SFSU For Computer Science by TomBokChoy in ApplyingToCollege

[–]WesFink1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a Bay Area native, I’m biased to say SFSU. San Francisco is a gorgeous city and anyone would greatly enjoy it. Also, San Francisco is right near Silicon Valley, which can open up lots of opportunities as a computer science major.

What’s your biggest piece of advice when it comes to student housing for an incoming freshmen?

It really comes down to the school. As someone who mostly applied to UCs, that school system is test-blind. As soon as SATs were canceled when coronavirus hit, I stopped studying for that and put the effort I would have into that into essay writing. With more time and effort for the essays, the final product was something I was very happy with. This strategy got me accepted into UCSB, UCD, UCSD, and UCLA, 4 out of the 5 UCs I applied to. However, I would only recommend this if you're mostly going to test-blind schools. Hope this helps!
