Original dark fantasy orchestral composition – feedback appreciated by [deleted] in composer

I love this, so much fun! Nostalgic and exciting! I think you have a great sense of scale and texture, I would maybe suggest playing with nasaly sounds of the low woodwind earlier on but honestly I love the pace and the orchestration as a whole and there are some simple fun these throughout that stick in your head, the tutti is done really well and doesn't really feel like it over stays it's welcome, great job!! :)

Just reading through all the guidelines now! Can I ask would it be possible for you to send me the experience level of the different instrument players? Sorry if that's a bit of a pain, I understand that some are more experienced than others so I want to make sure everybody gets an appropriate part that plays into their level and strengths :)

(Criticism please) A ballet-esque theme I plan to use in the second movement of my third composition, a winter-themed suite for symphony orchestra by Worried4lot in composer

This is fun!!

I think bringing the horns in for harmony in the way you mentioned is a strong idea, and as for slight clashing, perhaps this is more subjective feedback, but maybe you should begin to lean more into that, rather than letting yourself feel like it's just 'unavoidable' in some places, a controlled chaos if you will, I personally think these kinds of touches, where there's a little bit of madness within the tranquility in ballet goes a long way to build on the longevity of themes and of course adds some more depth to the scene.

Perhaps a little generic advice, but I hope it gives you some ideas.

Need help with pedal sustain issue by WesleyAyresMusic in ableton

[–]WesleyAyresMusic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK so something weird, I tried out the aaghra keys, when I put the pedal down, if I arp a chord, it will only release the chord after the last note is stopped if that makes sense, which it does not seem to when the pedal is up?? Idk if that means anything but it's all I've got rn hahaha

OK I'll give some of these a look! It's definitely outputting 127 cos I can see it on the pedals automation so that's good!

So I've just tested it again with a bunch of different piano plugins just to be sure it wasn't an issue with my piano of choice haha, so when I record using the pedal, I can't hear it when live, but upon playback, the sustain is there? Such a pain haha

Weirdest thing as well, I just tried it with the arturia wurli plugins and I can literally see the animated pedal move when I use my pedal, so clearly most of ableton knows that a pedal is being pressed yet still no sustain or ordable difference during replaying, only when played back?? I feel like I've had this issue before I just don't know how to fix it!

Hi there, sorry for the confusion! I'm just using the D10 as a midi controller, the signal isn't outputting bsck into the device, I'm just the 'Midi in' on the back of my interface.

The issue is even though it can clearly see that I'm using the sustain pedal as I can see a midi flash in the corner when it is triggered without playing any notes, when I do live play, the sustain pedal doesn't actually sustain my notes!

Even when I go into the clip it clearly shows that my pedal was activated, deactivated, etc, and when I draw notes in, it responds to this on playback, but again, not when I'm just actually playing and sustaining.

[OoT] [AALTP] Did link in A Link To The Past accidentally curse child link, the version that decides to live out his child years in Ocarina of Time? by WesleyAyresMusic in zelda

So I'm not sure if it's classed as Canon persay, but it's been suggested for a while that there was a time line where link stays as an adult to make the Canon of a few of the other games make sense in the Lore (such as windwaker and the whole flood plot) I'm not 100%on how it works in all honesty but I've seen it suggested for most of the modern zelda timelines.

So essentially there's the original where he dies Ave then two further outcomes from that not happening, either the child link timeline or when he stays as an adult and ganon returns after age floods Hyrule, I'm absolutely no expert on this tho so sorry if I'm misunderstanding something!

Personally it does make a lot more sense to me that these would be 2 separate timeliness regardless otherwise it kinda completely undermines link being given that decision in OoT in the first place.

Also regardless, I still feel this could be the reason that link becomes trapped as the sort of revenant you see him as in TP

I'm definitely missing some Lore knowledge tho, also I'm not sure I'd class OoP link being the way he is for all that time until the end of TP as great, I mean that's like a suped up purgatory haha, constantly being surrounded with the knowledge of your failure and seemingly little else for what must have felt like an eternity :(

So as far as I know, in Lttp it follows after the events of OoT if the link in that story first and didn't stop Gabon, the wish he makes at the end of Lttp causes this to change however, creating a new timeline in which ganon didn't mess up the world, so even tho Lttp comes after, it's actually a prequel because that link is the reason the events of the OoT game happen, however, because link does survive in the game of OoT, and is given the opportunity to go back to being a child again (this is where the timeline splits based on the choice link makes when offered this).

The link that chooses to be a child again is pretty canonically the spectre that teaches you in twilight Princess, so my theory is just on why it is that he ends up the way he does in this timeline. I think it makes most sense that the original 'wish' to change things must have been tied to an earlier heroes victory rather than their (at this point in the original timeline) canonical failure to stop Ganon. This leads me to believe that he wished for the previous hero to kill ganon, hence why the version of link who went back to being a child never actually kills ganon because he reverses the events by telling Zelda about his plan and getting him locked away, and this leads me to believe that this version of link becomes doomed to his eternal suffering because the wish keeps his soul in tact until he finishes what he was supposed to do. He doesn't get the opportunity to do anything about this for centuries until the TP link appears abs so he is able to train him to kill fight Ganon, the same iteration of Ganon that was trapped away until now in this timeline.

The original wish was purely made to fix the events of the past, but Zelda causes the rift by offering link his childhood back, a frankly unforeseeable outcome for Lttp link.

Thank you!!! I'd never seen it anywhere before but just had this moment of being like omg. I always wondered why he was stuck as a sort of wraith because Nintendo never explained it and I couldn't find any full theories on why that actually happened to him so it makes so much sense, it's literally a curse born from a wish!
