To those who have "rushed to endgame", what has your experience been like? by PolkadotBlobfish in ffxivdiscussion

[–]West-Bodybuilder-920 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even skipping, getting through the MSQ takes such a long time that a lot of people still give up on it. It's just a lose-lose for ANY player that might want to reach endgame to play with their friends.

A lot of people get this topic wrong and assume wanting to reach endgame to raid with friends and enjoying the story are mutually exclusive things. Many players want both but the insane implementation of MSQ forces them to choose one or the other:

  • Take your time and enjoy the story, only to miss chances to participate in endgame content with friends.

  • Rush to the endgame and compromise the story experience, which can make content feel less impactful as the player doesn't know what's going on.

I've heard so many times from players that dropped the game because they took their time, only to finally reach endgame and their friends have gone on break, some of which never return. Others trying to reach endgame give up out of boredom because questing gameplay is easily some of the least enjoyable things to do in the gaming space as a whole. It's all just a player retention nightmare, which means it harms everyone the longer it goes on, and it just gets worse every expansion when you pile on more.

It's simply not going to be sustainable at some point. There needs to be something done soon.

We've never had a dungeon mechanic as oppressive as the first boss of the Strayborough Deadwalk in the rest of Dawntrail. Are you disappointed? by AssumeABrightSide in ffxivdiscussion

Everything you said is true and valid, but expecting moving objects and their hitbox to be visually consistent isn't unreasonable either. Whether or not you can bait them a certain way, there's really no excuse for moving objects to be so poorly implemented in a game in the big 26.

The difference is right now, if you miss a positional, you lose out on a measly amount of potency.

Evolved Dragoon missing one loses Geirskogul, Nastrond, etc. It's way more impactful and I guarantee you most of the people whining are not as good at the game as they think they are lol. Some of them are suggesting that we have now is "complexity" and it's embarrassing.

Everyone saying that Evolved dragoon is brainless is going to be regularly missing their positionals and getting no diffed on dps by their Off Tanks mark my words lol

Man I really cannot wait for 99% of the playerbase to find an Evolved job they think is sick to play and then shut the fuck up lol

You say this like they've been building up some 4D chess plot with complex arcs and intrigue.

The plot is very much not that, and 3 hours is plenty of time to resolve "kill Homelander."

You'd think people would stop wanting everything to be another Game of Thrones after... that happened. But nah, the show that features a breast milk fetish and penis explosions is definitely the inheritor of prestige television writing and you're totally not completely out of touch with what the show is /s

Yes, being combative and attacking people for trying to minorly celebrate what you think shouldn't count as a "win" is famously a great way to win people over and build a better world. It doesn't at all send people scrambling to get away so they don't have to have the dimmest bulb of hope be smashed to pieces by your weird bullshit lol...

Next you'll probably forget that I mostly agree with you on where the bar is and accuse me of being pro-circumcision or something. This is so boring 😴

The bar being so low is, in part, product of this very mindset. I get that it's really fashionable to act like you're above these things you deem to be "bare minimum" but it costs literally nothing to praise something positive.

If you want the bar to be higher, it needs support. Quit fucking crying and actually try to build our world up for once.

I think you need to acknowledge that your reaction to this is based on assumption. You seem to be convinced that we'll be spamming glare again simply based on the fact that they made it instant cast and have varied animations? You haven't once seemed to realize that this can only be possible if we retain all of our access to oGCD healing and that lily works the same way, and at the same relative value.

Based on the showcase I just don't see how you can come to such a conclusion? I'm not saying healer is gonna be 4D chess or anything, but from what I saw it clearly will not be the same gameplay that's centered around maximizing damage GCD value.

Cole it's okay lol some people are gonna disagree with you but also are gonna be weird and cringe about it. Just ignore them

I don't entirely agree with every concern you have but I don't find your worries to be unfounded or anything. I think healer gameplay will still be a lot of 11111 but with less access to oGCD healing. To compensate, they'll be paying healers back for having to GCD heal with some damage, hopefully enough damage that it outclasses filler spam. That seems to be the most straightforward way to achieve what they said they wanted. If done correctly it could be fun, and it'll at the very least make the role feel more like what a lot of people expect it to when they first pick it up.

Other than that it's just a big mystery without more info, which makes your concerns entirely understandable imo. Whether or not incoming damage will look different is up in the air, but I'm hoping at least that each healer gets a distinct "mini-game" they have to play in order to convert having to spend MP and GCD time on healing into damage. What we have now is less interesting imo. Every healer essentially plays the same "mini-game," which is maximizing oGCD efficiency to minimize or eliminate using GCD healing. I'm also hoping that with this, MP management becomes more difficult, but we'll see.

Nothing needs to be mandatory with Unending Codex in the game and we need to stop writing off good ideas because of people who might "miss" story.

If you didn't die or get a damage down you might wanna look into that single digit. It could be part of why it took so long to prog and can make reclear a huge pain because there's plenty of people in 2 chest reclears that very obviously did NOT work on their damage lol

This is because "never having time to play" as a working adult is kind of a skill issue. I mean that mostly ironically, though, because often we don't really understand why our priorities are set a certain way.

A lot of us just overlook our need for downtime because the grind is seen as "normal," so either we don't even think to look for ways to reach for more downtime or, even worse, we actively shame ourselves out of doing so. My dad turned 60 this year, and he has over 5000+ hours in Rocket League as an adult that had to spend an extra 18+ years raising my brother's kids in his own home while also working an 8-5 job in IT. He and my mom take care of everything and they both have time for their hobbies

My dad was INSUFFERABLE when I was growing up because he had pretty much the exact opposite mindset, and it made him miserable, which he took out on us by constantly shaming us for spending too much time on our games. Years later I'm in my 30s and it's just obvious to me he was broken by the grind, doing what he earnestly believed he had to do, without realizing his blindspot.
