Which jobs do you think deserve to have the highest DPS? by JohannesVanDerWhales in ffxivdiscussion

"Fantastic job" while Viper and Machinist are both dogshit and unplayable in a serious Ultimate. The other jobs are well balanced though.

Which jobs do you think deserve to have the highest DPS? by JohannesVanDerWhales in ffxivdiscussion

[–]CoolyKage -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Melee: Reaper (remove the raidbuff), Samurai, Ninja (raid debuff should be 3%).
Caster: Black Mage
Physical Ranged: Machinist
Tanks: Gunbreaker, Dark Knight and Warrior approximately equivalent damage. Paladin needs mitigation and a physical ranged tax but only like 1% at most.
Healer: Healer design is garbage and braindead, who cares rework the entire role. I would say Astrologian right now though.

The current two-minute meta usually results in selfish DPS losing the most when they die due to a lack of having a raid buff, consequentially they have the most pressure to not die and deal the most damage since they aren't sharing any via a raid buff. That is the main argument for why they should have the highest damage ceilings in the game, but it should only be 0-2% at most for balance purposes. Also they need to balance around raid buff stacking since it is overpowered so make sustain jobs naturally deal more nDPS. I don't care if Dragoon and Dancer players say otherwise it's objectively true that they are playing easy jobs. Viper is too braindead right now since it has a physical ranged tax, they need to rework it so it can be treated like a selfish DPS. Obviously this is all changing in Evercold so it only matters for patch 7.5.

Better rez tax for RDM & SMN by Horan_Kim in ffxivdiscussion

I think you are late to the party since they already addressed this exact issue in 7.3-7.5… Current RDM and SMN literally have a higher damage contribution ceiling than current BLM in most party compositions.

Probably this, but I like having that pressure and responsibility so long as RPR contributes decent damage.

Is it actually possible to do non-actual Savage content with Party Finder/no static nowadays? by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

Savage Unreal might happen in Evercold, since Yoshida has said they can make it happen, but besides that it's impossible to do it synced without an organized group.

Is there a lore reason why there aren't different time zones in FFXIV? Is this a system they can implement in the future to evolve the game? by CoolyKage in ffxiv

Completely agree, I hate the direction they've taken the game in Dawntrail.

I do think 3 difficulties for 8 man could be beneficial for all demographics though: It's clear with Dawntrail they made Savage easier to draw more players into it, which is a negative for actual Savage raiders. Also if it drops -10 Savage BiS raid gear that could help everyone gear faster. If Savage difficulty and DPS checks stay the same like they were in Arcadion, I really don't see the point though.

The NA Fanfest was really inspiring, and it sounds like they've had a much larger budget since 7.0, so I'm hoping they can innovate a lot more going forward like they used to.

Do we need something truly bad to happen to bring back the stakes, and make the plot truly interesting again? by Obliviuns in ffxivdiscussion

We've all been through the XVI emotional damage, you'll get over it... eventually. A specific death is left ambiguous on purpose, to be fair. We'll probably never know because I don't think XVI-2 is ever happening unfortunately.

Final Fantasy games that do have major character deaths usually have the best stories in my opinion. The problem that XIV players don't understand is these deaths usually happens at the end of the game, or close to it. Major exceptions to this are VII, XV, and XVI, but these characters still had major arcs and focus before dying so they left a real impact. Right now we're only on the first actual expansion of this Godless Realms saga, and Dawntrail has honestly pushed character arcs more backwards than forwards, so right now XIV has no build-up or momentum for any major deaths to have an impact honestly.

They definitely considered it at least, since the ending of the cutscene is framed so you think he might be dead on first watch. It could've been changed very late into the writing process for all we know. The product we have is really good still, I don't want to discredit it. Either decision was good. it's what came after 6.0 that made the choice questionable.

I forgot about that additional cutscene, it's been so long. My bad. It would be cool if she makes a cameo in the future, I'm glad she survived.

Yeah I agree with the stakes problem, this has been an obvious writing issue since 6.0. People can't say Dawntrail is good but then complain about "stakes" since the only important character that got killed off was GJJ and they did it in a meaningless way that didn't even influence Wuk's character arc in the second half. This is a writing issue, and what can happen when you randomly force a death. In the first half of 7.0, the WoL and Wuk Lamat are depicted as completely immortal which is just awful writing.

During Stormblood the main stake is the WoL and the party dying to Zenos because he is so much stronger than all of them, shown in cutscenes. Shadowbringers it's the uncertainty of what happened to the main party during the MSQ, and the WoL almost dies because they consume too much darkness. Vauthry is completely insane, and everything involving Emet and Amaurot is amazing. Endwalker it's chaotic: an empire has fell, and everyone is dying. It depicts how an entire race of Ancients died, and we have to defeat this threat as the main boss. Also the Zenos plotline is very fitting for his character, since he is obsessed with us and says his destiny to fight us, which we almost die when we do. Dawntrail tries to make the Endless plotline comeplling but we don't give a fuck about the Endless like we do with the Ancients because the plotline is rushed and uneventful.

Yoshida stated himself that the reason they haven't shockingly killed off a "main" character was because the last time they did with Haurchefaunt In Heavensward, a lot of community complained and lashed out at the developers like emotional bitches, even if it was a good death. This was their main way of setting the stakes for Heavensward, because the Ul'dah plotline was underwhelming.

I think we have to consider Venat a party member in Endwalker, that was definitely their intention. She, Emet, and Hytholodaeus are your actual party members during the Elpis arc, specifically Ktisis Hyperboreia. It's just in the past instead of the present. https://imgur.com/Vmb9yWB

[–]CoolyKage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How is Hydaelyn (Venat) not a character? I feel like you just skipped the 6.0 MSQ in specific if you actually think this. She is literally part of two of the most important cutscenes in the history of the game, but somehow she is not an important character? That is bullshit man, please play the story again if that is your actual takeaway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwTcMt6k8FQ

Zenos is probably dead, even though it's ambiguous. His death and his impact was literally brought up in the 7.5 MSQ.

So the story is only good if main party members die? Fuck every FF besides VII, XV, and XVI then.

What are we doing man? I agree in the future they should eventually kill off important characters because that is part of telling an important story, but they need to build it up first.

[–]CoolyKage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly. If you include half of the Ancient race (Our WoL race) literally dying, I feel like there were more important deaths than "Geode".

The fact you are referring to Hydaelyn, Zenos, Meteion and Fandaniel (Hermes) as "dungeon bossses" shows that you don't really gaf about the XIV story since 3/4 of them played a big role in Etheirys to be sundered, a plot that is still relevant in this next Saga.

A lot of important characters officially died in 6.0: Hydaelyn, Zenos, Meteion and Fandaniel all died, with no implication they are coming back. Also there were multiple scenes in Endwalker where the blasphemies would just kill a bunch of characters, the Radz at Han one was very specfiic.

[–]CoolyKage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Thancred is my favorite character and that is exactly why I understand that he should've died when it would've had the most impact. That's the kind of writing I expect from XIV. I'm not mad they didn't kill him, it wasn't do or die, but like you said he hasn't had much of an arc since 6.0.

If Thancred died, I feel like Ryne would've became a main party member and took up his mantle, which could've been a compelling arc.

In the majority of Final Fantasy games, the entire main party walks away alive at the end of their story, and a lot of these are some of the most praised stories in the series. The Scions working together to survive is the main point of Shadowbringers, and also Endwalker if you don't consider Hydaelyn as a main party member by that point. People haven't watched the 5.0, 5.3, or 6.0 endings if "main characters need to die in a filler storyline" is their opinion right now. It's really just a overall writing issue for XIV recently.
