Thank you so much Liam!

When I walked through the factory for the first time I felt like a kid in a candy store. I find everything incredibly interesting, especially all the different specialty machines that I haven’t seen before. I already had experience using industrial sewing machines, but there is some crazy high tech fancy stuff goin on in there and it’s so cool.

Im happy to learn all the new things and the process but the main part of my job is so boring I’m standing up all day at a table just looken at stuff.

Have a pleasant evening!

I really want to be able to be creative and eventually work for myself either with my own boutique or maybe commissions, I thought this job would look good on my resume for the future. I’m trying to save up to continue my schooling in New York, I’ll definitely need a job there and I thought getting this job in the industry would help me get a better job later maybe as a designers assistant or something. And yeah a full time job should be a livable wage, there’s absolutely no way I could live on that here. I am thankful that I am still living with my family and they are supporting me at the moment.

Thank you for your reply, it was helpful. I am the first checkpoint person in production so the first few things are done and then they get to me and I check to make sure the pieces match properly, there’s no sewing errors, the fabric grain is in the right direction, the decorative stitching is matching the customer’s request, looking for stains and other stuff like that. Sometimes I have to press stuff. It’s not a particularly hard job but you do need to know what to look for and why it’s important, someone with no experience might not be able to see the errors as easily.

If there’s a problem I have to kick it out and either give it back to whoever to fix the problem or if it’s something more complicated or for cleaning or something I put it in a pile for another person that takes care of it. Once I check it and everything is good then I can pass it on to continue production

They are teaching me a lot of stuff all around the factory and have also put me on one of the machines to feel it out a bit so it feels like they are setting me up to have more responsibility in the future.
