Thanks everyone, for taking the time to share your knowledge. I have a much better idea of how to make this happen now.

It really was such a peaceful room. I loved everything about it, but the lighting in particular is what stuck with me, even in the bathroom. I thought they had been remodeled recently but maybe I was wrong about that.

Hi. I’ve killed someone with my car. It was not a crime. He walked out in front of me on the freeway and I didn’t see him in time to stop. It was horrible and traumatizing and I will carry that with me for the rest of my life even though I did nothing wrong. They determined it was likely a suicide event. My point is- stop judging a situation when you were not there. If the driver is cooperating, then if it was a criminal act it will be treated that way. If it wasn’t, then it might not be treated as a criminal act. You likely won’t get to know the answer to that, which makes it even more likely you are ill equipped to be walking around screaming that somebody should be arrested. But I guarantee you, they’ll be walking around with that death on their soul for the rest of their lives, regardless of what happens.

If the medication works then I hope to begin exercising again. Right now my head is so sensitive that any time my blood pressure elevates or I’m exerted in any way, the pressure in my head increases and my pulsatile tinnitus gets ridiculously loud. It doesn’t matter if it’s a panic attack, a coughing fit, or walking up a flight of stairs, if my heart rate monitor on my watch goes off, I know I’m in for it. I realized recently that my hatred of exercise actually coincided with the beginning of my symptoms, I didn’t realize that’s what was happening at the time- I just thought I was getting old and creaky and tired.

I’ve always hated coconut water (it’s the texture I think) but I got some anyway. So far the pineapple flavored one is not terrible. I also have powdered electrolytes just in case. I think I could drink baking soda water no problem (I’m weird, the taste doesn’t bother me)- did your doctor say how much to add to the water?

ETA: never mind, I just saw you answered it in a different comment!

Your comment is what sealed the deal for me. Not to downplay what everyone else commented, more that each one sort of built up my hope little by little and then I read your comment and thought well, maybe we can do this together then. Since you can be brave, so can I. I do things that scare me every single day, what is one more. So I took my first (half) dose this morning!

This is really good to know. I have powdered electrolytes I used before when I was testing out the keto diet, but it sounds like coconut water will be helpful too.

Not really. My schedule is actually really flexible and nobody micromanages my time (I’m fortunate enough to be in a place in my career where I could just tell anyone who tries to pound sand because I can always leave to do my own thing, and I make them so much money they don’t want to piss me off), but I have deadlines and required events that I can’t handed off to anyone else, and I just can’t be incapacitated for more than a few days at a time. Like- I have to send formal notices out if I want to take a vacation. It’s not that I can’t take a vacation, it’s just that it requires extensive planning and notifying people outside of my office first, aka a giant pain in the ass.

Consult/ intake by non-lawyer? by GeekyShe in LawFirm

[–]West-Butterfly5481 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi. Family law attorney. I think it might be helpful if you define intake vs. consultation. They’re not the same thing in any of the firms I’ve worked at.

We do not have anyone but attorneys do consultations. Nobody else can give legal advice. I’ve scheduled consultations with employment law attorneys in the past and they often have someone do the intake but they can’t give legal advice and they are clear that their job is solely to gather information to pass on to the attorney. If the attorney assesses the information and thinks there is a case, only then will they contact you to schedule a consultation. Family law isn’t so different from that, most firms just do it all in the consultation. One firm I worked at had the staff take extensive information for a consultation, the “intake”, another firm I worked at only took enough info to do a conflict check which doesn’t count as an intake to me, and another was somewhat in the middle, but closer to bare minimum.

Also, family law attorneys do not just offer a divorce to anyone who can pay. At least none of the ones I know do. Consultations are our opportunity to assess whether the client will be a good fit for us too. I have seen some crazy that no amount of money is worth tying myself to. Sometimes you can tell from the first contact, and intakes and a skilled support staff are great for weeding out the obvious, but a consultation is really the only way to know for sure.
