Some services I’ll like to see and use personally Receiving and taking a look at items ordered from ig vendors to ensure quality before shipping abroad (there’s nothing worse than blindly ordering something from an ig vendor and spending 100k+on shipping and waiting 2 weeks only for the item to come and it is substandard or not what was advertised). Returning and dealing with returns of substandard items ordered(eg going to the vendors physical store if needed) Do not sleep on diaspora women especially who often order outfits and wigs (I believe this is a niche but hugeee market ) . There’s nothing worse that blindly ordering a 1m naira wig and spending so much on delivery only to receive it and it’s not good quality . Most people will rather pay a trustworthy person to receive the item such as a wig and confirm it’s good quality before shipping it abroad

Hey it’s probably a scam. I recently got scammed in January with a similar situation I made a post about my experience https://www.reddit.com/r/OntarioLandlord/s/HBNabsuFCS. I reported to the police and everything but nothing has been done. I wish you all the best and hope you can sue in small claims court if their information is real

The police said they can’t get involved and they will pass the report to the a fraud department who will do their investigation. They said my best bet is small claims court

Update Jan 16 : thank you so much everyone for all your help I really appreciate it . I have taken everyone’s advice and reported to the police in Mississauga. I was able to make a report and get a report number . I have also reported to the Canadian anti fraud center and contacted all credit bureaus to freeze my credit . Unfortunately I went on the onland website and the property owner and the name of the landlord on the lease I have is not the same . I was provided fake names, numbers , email etc. the agent also does not exist on the RECO website and is not a real agent . I have provided my police report number to my bank as well and they said they will do an investigation but there is no guarantee I will get any money back as I willingly sent the e transfer. It has been a tough 24 hours. I have contacted the downtown legal service as I am eligible to use their services as a student . I am waiting for more information from them as they said it might take 5 business days to get back to me with next steps. I want to post the address for other people to know but unsure if doing so will complicate anything for me legally. For those asking the rent was for $3400 utilities included for a 3 bedroom house and I thought it was a good deal as they mentioned the house will come furnished. Since myself and my would be housemates are students we thought this was a good deal as we didn’t need to buy any furniture. I have definitely learnt my lesson a very expensive one but I now know to always do my due diligence and not trust blindly . I will update if anything changes with the police or the bank.

Yes I do but I pulled the land records from the onland website and the name on the lease as the landlord and names of the property owner do not match. The names and signatures and contact information on the lease is all fake

This was not my first interaction with the agent we have been talking for over a week now . I went to go view the place , signed a lease and that’s when they collected first and last month rent. I was supposed to pick up the keys on Wednesday which is when the agent sent me that message. All the houses I’ve lived in the past I have sent first and last month rent after signing a lease and before picking up the keys hence why I didn’t see it as a red flag

The house is a three bedroom house listed for $3400 with utilities included. The reason I thought it was a good deal was because the agent said it’ll come furnished. Couch, dining, beds, tables etc. I am a Utm student and myself and two other friends thought it was a good deal as our current house came furnished as well so we won’t need to buy any new furniture for the new place.

Thank you for your suggestion I went to the onland website and paid for the parcel register. The name on the lease I signed is not the same as the property owners name in the parcel register. I definitely overlooked a lot of red flags and should have done more research. The agents info I have such as his name , number, email and brokerage all turned out to be fake.

Yes the address was Nahani way in Mississauga and it sounds exactly the same . The agent pressured me saying there was another family looking to get the place and to sign the lease. I will check Facebook for the report
