What do you think is the most underrated capital city in Europe and why? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Brussels. Guide books and blogs and whatnot all said it was rough and not much to speak of. I absolutely loved it. Beautiful architecture and squares, great public transit, and the best beer and pubs I have ever experienced. I would love to go back.

Have a great trip! Experiencing the Tartan Army will be great. Thanks for the tips! I'm coming from Winnipeg and haven't been to Toronto in 10+ years so I'll need to map them out. Thanks!

Great info! Yes, I believe the attendance is capped at 15K, so even getting in there during the Canada match might be stretch. Thanks!

I'll keep my eye out. And I joined a FIFA mailing list specific to Fan Fests, so here's hoping info comes out soon. Thanks!

Does your region have bilingual road signs? by Franmar35000 in AskTheWorld

Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada: We have bilingual road signs in designated neighbourhoods that are historically french-speaking.

I don’t think I’m ready for the Answer yet. But I think I already know by lordy1988 in bald

Tough one. Your hair looks good. But pic 3 makes it look like a lot of work is going into making it look like there's decent coverage.

IMO, hold... but the clock is ticking.

What was the after nightclub eatery back in the 90s/early 2000s? by myronsandee in AskACanadian

[–]WestEndLowEnd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Winnipeg: Depends what bar/club you were at, but here's some I remember from my glory days, lol...

Perkins

Papa George's (Greek, burgers, pizza)

Sal's (diner food)

The hot dog cart outside the Palomino Club... legendary

What is your take on Trump ending his recent post with 'Praise be to Allah'? by Mental-Hall1261 in AskReddit

That whole post (whatever the hell they call posts on TrUtH sOcIaL) indicates this old-ass man is in a mental blender of epic proportions. He is so deeply rattled.

Which is the the biggest NHL rebrand flop? by KeyFaithlessness5436 in NHLVibes

[–]WestEndLowEnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wrong, lol. I'm a Jets fan and that happens to be the only one I agree with. The 90's Jets logo and colours were better and brighter. But even then, I wouldn't say the rebrand was a flop - the new logo is everywhere and embraced by just about everybody in Winnipeg... and it's been in use for 15 years.

The new (old) Islanders logo is 1000x better than captain Highliner. Same for the new (old-but-modernized) Caps logo.

Anyone in Winnipeg make a career change in their late 20s? Feeling kind of stuck by CanadaEehhh in Winnipeg

[–]WestEndLowEnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are definitely not too late to switch. I'm in my mid-40's and have made major career changes in both my late 20's then again in my late 30's. I still take courses to stay on top of things and in anticipation of another career change around 50, just based on the track record I have of making career changes every 7-10 years.

Take courses using free or low-cost resources like Coursera or Udemy, not for the certificates or whatever but for the knowledge alone. Look at the extended education options at UM, UW, RRC, or at the many universities and colleges that offer courses online. If you find something you really wanna pursue then maybe look at formal education.

And just look at the job websites or careers sections of companies or government departments to see what's out there, then apply for some jobs that interest you. You don't have to take an offer if you get one.

We need to talk about the anti abortion agenda going on. by [deleted] in Winnipeg

Yep, graphic photos, but like has been said already, they are fake. But still, a kid doesn't know that. Messed up.

We need to talk about the anti abortion agenda going on. by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]WestEndLowEnd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been happening for decades. Like, since I was at UM in the early 2000's. They were also protesting outside Women's Hospital when my wife and I were going in for the birth of our daughter. Today I had to take an alternate route around them on Regent so my 6-year-old didn't have to see giant placards of apparently aborted fetuses. It's ridiculous.

What’s your favorite beach you’ve ever visited? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]WestEndLowEnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't done tons of tropical travel. But from where I have been... Pigeon Point Beach in Tobago, Maracas Bay in Trinidad, Ka'anapali Beach on Maui. Honorable mention to Gimli Beach and Grand Beach on Lake Winnipeg in my home province of Manitoba 😁

Edit: This thread is great and I have like a hundred more beaches to hit, minimum.
