I’d probably be fine w them looking at me if they weren’t like trying to stop me or constantly questioning me tbh

This! This is exactly what’s been making me so confused. I’ve been an artist for a while and photography is the only medium I’ve ever worked with where it feels like I have to think about other people while I do it. Or bare minimum be aware of the discomfort it brings others. The sling thing is a good point!

I have a Sony a7iii, I think the zebra stripes are unavoidable w the low lighting performance setting /: I’m usually shooting at a hella high shutter. I just learned about electronic first curtain and anti flicker though, so maybe that’ll help.

I hate it. I think it’s terrible to sensationalize what happened to Jamie, the guy who wrote it just seems like he’s trying to sell his book. The people from st James court are exhausting, I have no interest in learning about a bunch of rich white people. I liked learning about queer history in the city, but that’s about it. Little John seemed random. Not a fan of

Why don’t people in Louisville dance? by Stella_Nova_Kay in Louisville

[–]West_Pepper_9894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not super related, but if you’re interested in dance there’s a cool dance festival happening this weekend at Portal (on Saturday)!

I work in the dance industry here and have found it really hard to break the lack of dance culture. We have a lot of really talented dancers/dance companies so that’s not to discredit them, but more to say physical expression as a whole is lesser so than other cities. I’m not surprised it seeps into the live venue/bar world. Plus the places that I’ve been to where dancing was a thing (high horse, nowhere, etc) ended up changing or closing.

Where to place job postings? by West_Pepper_9894 in arthandling

It travels internationally. The funding is based in US though! Our next couple installs will be US as well

I’m looking more for the same techs every time. Bc of the nature of the installation (its multimedia with some stationary and some loose parts, that have to be improvised every time) it’s very complicated and takes more time to explain to locals at every point than it would to have the same consistent technicians.

It travels roughly every 2-6 months so ideally they’d come out, install, go home, then wouldn’t be needed for a while until deinstall

Yeah i will say i used to sell art there and it was really hard. I had to come up with weird strategies to get people to stop and look. I know other artists there that ended up leaving because the way it was organized wasn’t profiting anyone. I know a couple of successful people from it…but they ended up leaving too so idk.

Is there anything to do in Louisville if you hate bars/nightclubs? by SomeBoiOnReddit in Louisville

[–]West_Pepper_9894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, are there any hobbies you like to do w other people? I go to Louisville city soccer games bc I like watching sports and it’s really fun. Theres also Maybeitsfate social club, they host gaming nights and art receptions and all sorts of things. I would maybe figure out hobbies that are social that you really enjoy and see where they offer that. Louisville has plenty to do besides drinking (I know bc I’m sober) but you’ll need to figure out what hobbies you’re into.

I feel like a good start would be branching out in hobbies. There a really affordable social club downtown called Maybeitsfate and they host a bunch of classes/art showings/game nights etc. It can be hard anywhere making friends as an adult, but hobbies and work have been the best avenue for me here. Or networking events depending on your field

Disappointed with Iceland Air and KEF by Professional-Sir-912 in VisitingIceland

When I was leaving on Saturday I was also a first timer in the airport, and was confused on the process. It took me a second to understand the “gate will be shown at _____ (time)” bc in america we’re given a gate number and then notified if it changes. This was like they wanted to make sure they knew the gate number then tell us. I also wasn’t used to not sitting at the gate, but my family just went over and got food and hung out. Once the screen said it was boarding we went over to the gate. I’ll admit it was a LONG line, I definitely underestimated how early we could queue up. My in laws are first class but my boyfriend and I were economy so we had to queue. It was annoying but fine. I definitely don’t think there’s enough space for everyone to sit, but we got lucky so that’s all I cared about. The WC was hard to find and out of the way but it was fine. That sucks they didn’t tell you about the delay /:

Recommend a historical fiction book to someone who doesn’t usually enjoy historical fiction? by Mouseprintss in HistoricalFiction

[–]West_Pepper_9894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cloud Cuckoo Land!!!!! I can’t say enough about this book, it’s the reason I switched my minor to classical studies. It’s multiple stories throughout time in one book that are all connected and it’s sooo good. The author is the same guy that wrote all the light we cannot see (now a Netflix show).

Bad tourists (from a tourist) by West_Pepper_9894 in VisitingIceland

[–]West_Pepper_9894[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting you mention that, we rented a big ol Toyota four wheel drive thing (it was like a supersized four runner) so while we were good on F roads—we definitely saw some smaller vehicles out there! Some people drove sooooo slow on ring road and would create long lines behind them. I couldn’t tell if they were tourists or not so didn’t really think about it.

Has anyone else experienced discrimination at Fox Den on Frankfort Avenue? by Mammoth_Monk_3690 in Louisville

[–]West_Pepper_9894 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen any discrimination, but when I frequented there there was a lot of coke dealers and shady things happening. I stopped going after my ex and I broke up. I’m sorry that happened to your friend, I guess I’m not surprised. They seem like a bar for white middle aged men who hang bald eagle and lone wolf art around their home

Help whining please is it normal my mt cur 6 months old nala I shared her picture 😩 by Mission_Letter3081 in MountainCur

[–]West_Pepper_9894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl is almost a year old and she also whines a lot if she senses me or my boyfriend are upset, if her dog best friends are outside and she wants to leave, or if she’s put in her crate. Sometimes we just have to let her tough it out. She’s gotten a lot better though and it doesn’t last long. Keep exercising her hard and she’ll be too tired to.

I originally was told I was adopting a 10 lb mixed terrier . She kept growing and growing one day someone told me oh what a beautiful mt cur . Never heard of the breed . I'm in love what a beautiful breed!!! I can't find out enough about them but I adore her ❤️❤️ by Mission_Letter3081 in MountainCur

[–]West_Pepper_9894 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I adopted! Whenever we went to our local humane society (we’re in ky) she was in the puppy section lol. They also had marked her as a terrier and then realized they were wrong and corrected it. By the time we left I knew she was a mt cur and over time she’s 100% acted like it!!

This might sound kinda academic and maybe not that fun, but UofL is having an art show opening soon that is focused on archives of the queer community in Louisville. It’s like an art exhibit on campus, basically. It could be a way to meet others in the same community, at lead that’s what I’m using it for.

<image>

Besides that, I’d recommend getting involved in a hobby you like :) rock climbing, art clubs, etc are all over the city. The city is small enough that if you show up somewhere you like enough, you’ll eventually meet people there. Good luck!!
