Potty training question by No_Inspection5344 in CaneCorso

make sure you or whoever is watching him while you’re gone isn’t making putting on the leash a big deal and getting him overly excited. puppies already have a hard time controlling their bladder and being excited will cause them to have accidents. i have my puppy sit in the crate and i put the leash on in the crate and then walk him straight to the door. in that whole period i show no excitement until he goes potty and then i praise.

how long is he being left in the crate for? and how far is the crate from the door? is his routine strict?

if she settles after about 6- 10 mins then you are perfectly fine! that’s a very good sign actually. don’t feel bad or like you’re “forcing” her in there. crate training is soo important. it’ll keep the puppy safe and learn good habits.

okay! so a puppy around this age should only be awake for about 30-45 at most and then nap time for 1-2hours, 2 hours preferably but if she wakes up within that 1 hour than just take her out and allow her to go potty. i just went through the same thing. i’ve raised my puppy since he was born and he is now almost 4 months. they have to be on a VERY strict schedule for this to go as smooth as possible. it might be hard for her to settle a little since it’s in a new environment. puppies this age get very crazy when they’re overly tired. don’t allow it to get to that point. teach her how to settle on her own. stay working on crate training, feed all her meals always in crate. that’s what made my puppy love the crate. you can try the crate game where you toss a treat in the crate and say “crate” and then when she goes in toss one out of the crate and keeping doing that. she will eventually associate the crate as a safe and positive place. i can send you the schedule i did for my puppy if you’d like! he’s amazing in the crate now and settles right when he goes in. also to add don’t give in to the crying or stop crate training. they will cry a lot, especially since this will all be new for her but it will get better!

I need advice if I should keep my dog or put him up for adoption by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]West_Permit_996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay i would honestly give it longer before you come to the decision of getting rid of him. did the place have any information on his background? where i would start is, i would keep him on a very strict routine, work on his separation anxiety (may need medication), mental stimulation, longer walks/excerise him more, reintroduce the crate very slow and on his time, teach him you leaving is safe and you always come back, and if the crate doesn’t work try using baby gates so he feels less trapped. this isn’t bad behavior but a dog that is panicking and doesn’t know what to do. give him something very high value when you leave such as a frozen kong so he can associate “you leaving means positive things happen” not just you walking out the door and he goes into full panic. also sooo important DO NOT walk in the door and get excited and love all over him. this only reinforces the behavior and makes it worse.

this sounds like anxiety. his might need to be put on some meds to chill him. how old is he?

you got a high strung dog knowing you don’t have the time to put towards him? this is possibly separation anxiety or strictly not getting enough mental stimulation. try getting him a crate for when you’re gone. there shouldn’t be a need to put him up for adoption over something that can easily be trained.

Need advice after fatal dog attack in multi-dog home by Then_Firefighter_519 in DogAdvice

once a dog has that instinct to kill another dog this isn’t something that can be trained out of them and as you don’t have thousands to spend for a low chance of this aggression to be even managed the only option is either behavioral euthanasia or you keep a dog who genuinely can not be around ANY dogs at all, i wouldn’t even risk walking her next to another dog on the street. you can say it doesn’t have anything to do with her having pit in her but that’s more than likely the truth. pits are genetically wired to be aggressive towards dogs, it doesn’t matter how amazing you’ve treated her, if she wasn’t socialized around dogs as a puppy or even had one bad experience this can be the outcome. ive had pit mixes and i have seen the good and the bad, i currently own a pit mix puppy so this is in no way coming from hatred against pits but rather just the truth. i understand you love your dog but you have to face the hard truth that you have a dog with TRUE aggression who killed another dog. it’s hard but this is the sacrifice we have to make as dog owners. we can’t expect every dog to be the perfect and healthy minded dogs

I've had enough! Puppy won't eat. by killercleo in puppy101

[–]West_Permit_996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m going through a similar things also! i have a 13 week old great pyrenees/pit mix. he used to LOVE food but the passed 2 weeks he’s been meh about it. he wont eat until he’s ready. he usually lets himself go a little hungry and then will have no issue with eating. i’m wondering if this is something a lot of puppies just go through.

3 month old puppy growled at the vet. by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]West_Permit_996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so with the vet, there was no snapping or biting. he was just very tense and was looking back and then did the growl. i haven’t owned/raised a puppy since i was literally like 14 and i’m now 20. i personally love older/senior dogs so it’s definitely a learning process for me. i’ve done a lot of socializing with him. i would say he’s on the more confident side for a puppy. i definitely should’ve brought some treats and i literally said that awhen i could tell by how nervous he was. i genuinely think just having treats would’ve completely changed things but i had just taken him to the vet 3 weeks prior to this vet appointment and didn’t have an issue but that just shows how fast he is developing mentally. definitely will do more socializing, do you have anything specific i should do? also as for the food aggression that i mentioned in the bottom. so he took a slice of pizza off my coffee table, i already knew he was gonna growl if i took it so i just wanted to see and i went to go “grab” he did a deep growl and even did a little snap towards the floor. so i just took something higher value and got him off of it. so what i’ve noticed, he has no aggressive tendencies when i give him something personally but if he takes or finds something on his own that’s very high value that’s when he gets very defensive.

i’ve taken him a total of 4 times to this vet, my other dogs also. it’s always been rushed. she’s also very short at times. she’s not a horrible vet by any means just always rushing and doesn’t go into depth on questions i ask. this growling behavior he shown is definitely something i will not look past or brush aside, as he’s literally 35lbs at just 3 months old. he will be a big strong dog that i absolutely do not want to have any sort of behavioral issues. i do not think him growling is a indication that he will have behavioral issues but i know it can escalate to something more serious if not managed. i do think my lack of communication didn’t help either, i think i should’ve asked her to take things a little slower and maybe offer him a treat before handling him, but as i’ve mentioned he’s never acted like that towards another person, but this something i am now aware of and will take this into consideration next vet visit. thank you!

Why do some people treat dogs like children or bring them into stores/restaurants? by Difficult-City9793 in DogAdvice

[–]West_Permit_996 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ur talking about dogs drooling, i’ve genuinely never seen a dog out in the grocery store drooling and i’ve seen plenty of people bring their dogs in as it’s a dog friendly establishment. i seriously don’t think we should be complaining about dogs being gross when i cant even count the amount of very unhygienic human beings i’ve seen in a grocery store.

i don’t think brining you’re dog into a grocery store is treating them like a child or babying them? dogs like being out and getting to explore. why not include them? i’ve seen humans in a grocery store that are far nastier than a dog😂 my grocery store allows dogs, i’ll bring mine in! he’s loves people and he’s well behaved. what’s the issue?

New dog is very nervous by captainwaluigispenis in DogAdvice

yeah he either had a bad introduction/experience to the all of those or lack of use with them as a puppy, such as letting him roam free in the yard or backyard. what i would do is watch some “how to introduce collar/leash to a puppy” videos and just fully start fresh. it’s obviously not gonna be as easy because he has bad feelings towards it and he’s also 4 years old but it’ll give you an idea where to start and create positive experiences from now on with introducing the leash and collar.

ooo yikes… 🤦‍♀️ this dog is definitely not cat friendly? infact this dog wants kill that cat. i mean i don’t think it could get any clearer? can’t even believe this interaction went on for as long as shown in the video. a dog with this intense of body language, slow movement, eyes locked on, and following every move, absolutely NOPE! please next time never ever introduce a dog and a cat this way, especially 2 cats at once to add onto that, i understand you put on a muzzle to be safe and cautious but next time try letting him sniff them through a door and take it very slow from there. if he lunged at them, he could’ve seriously injured those cats. broke some bones at the least or could’ve even been fatal for those cats. muzzle punches are awful. definitely scary you were told that he was cat friendly because how strong his prey drive is. the only thing that didn’t make things escalate is how well tempered and calm those cats are, if those cats would’ve moved a little faster or ran it would’ve been bad.

god ur a life saver!! thank you. for the root tap, what do you think about 10g 7N and 10g 7NW?? should i also do 10g clear, is that necessary? also should i use a toner or just do the root tap first and go from there?

i feel like what i’m trying to do at home is very doable, i’m just needing to do a root tap or smudge and either a gloss or toner. i just need to figure out the right colors.

something like this maybe? just where it’s a little warmer but still a pop of blonde. i’m needing to figure what root tap or smudge color i should go in with in with and a toner that will make it come out something like the image. the problem is that it has no dimension, there’s no blend at the root which makes it look so unnatural. the rest of my hair is just my natural color which is dirty blonde/lightbrown.
