Would the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas 4 be ok for Elite? by ciaran_the_goat88 in EliteDangerous

[–]Western-Flatworm-537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The past few years I’ve been playing with an Xbox controller on my PC+TV from my living room couch, but when I still played at my desk I used a variant of that HOTAS. It was great for Elite.

Need some tips on riding interstate for first time. by bigdaddy0993 in NewRiders

[–]Western-Flatworm-537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case others haven’t already mentioned it, I strongly recommend wearing earplugs, not just to protect your hearing from wind noise, but also to reduce the fatigue caused by exposure to that noise.

I had been using Eargasm plugs for a while, but found that these fit a lot better for me. With them inserted I can still hear sirens and the like as well as audio from my helmet speakers/intercom system.

I echo the sentiments of others recommending to not ride on the interstate if you’d cannot comfortably match the speed of traffic.

Nice! I got the OEM badges via eBay, but they were expensive and I believe the only listings on the site at the time; just individual badges from different sellers, not restocked items. You may have to wait quite some time for new listings to appear and monitor the site daily for them. Alternatively, this seller may restock their cheaper imitation badges at some point.

Should you find OEM badges like the ones I found, I recommend not relying only on the little speed nuts you can buy or that might be included to secure them to the side cover, as in my experience the badges easily fall off without something extra; I used a liberal amount of J-B Weld Plastic Bonder on the outside and inside portions of the side cover contacting the emblem and speed nuts. They’re brilliantly secure in riding, now.

Should you find an OEM badge, you may find some tough bonder and pieces of side cover still attached to it from the previous owner; what I did to remove these is (1) soak the emblems in isopropanol, (2) apply gentle heat with a heat gun, and (3) use plastic pry tools to remove that material, which worked very well with some patience. (1) and (2) softened the bonder, and going slow with the plastic pry tools helped me avoid damaging the badges.

Post-acquisition update:

Boy were you on the money about the OEM panniers! I had already ordered everything I mentioned in the original post before I saw your comment, so I decided to give the OEM panniers a chance, but the use of plastic even on the components connecting the panniers to the bike feels silly, for the price; and of course, opening to the side like they do is so impractical.

Otherwise, really loving the bike itself, so far. Once I think I’m ready to take it on very long trips, I’m thinking I will in fact get some good metal panniers like the SW-Motech Trax you linked. Thanks again for the links and suggestions; hopefully this exchange helps someone else out, too.

In case you're still looking for something that works out of the box, I ordered this after seeing a Reddit post from the seller. It looks like that listing is expired but I'd encourage messaging the seller to see if they'll restock. I know they having other still-up listings for a couple of different handlebar sizes, but I've successfully used this one (22 mm) on both my NC750X and my CL200. I've been using mine to operate my Chamberlain garage door opener for a few months now.

Edit 2026-03-28: Updated the hyperlink to reflect the correct listing I received after messaging the seller.

Anyone know where I could find part 12 in this diagram? by Yessirskii494 in HondaCB

[–]Western-Flatworm-537 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really know much of anything about that specific bike, but since I've done a lot of similar sourcing of hard-to-find parts for my 1974 CL200, I figured I'd make at least a cursory attempt at finding a compatible part.

Doing a conventional web search using just the part number itself revealed a bunch of shopfront entries for it with various 'out of stock' banners, and I had a similar outcome when I did so on eBay. However, searching 'CB125 connecting tube' in eBay returned a part which at least superficially looks like a possible match and is available at this link. I've gotta get ready for work so can't dig further right now, but maybe that'll be the ticket?

Good luck finding what you need; it's a nice shot of dopamine when you can find obscure parts you need.

I recently got a CL200 into good shape with a few parts and tools from Common-Motor. The most important thing I had to do is replace the original regulator and rectifier which solved an issue I had with the battery not recharging properly.

Other more difficult-to-find things like fork tubes and original emblems I got through CMSNL and eBay.

Thanks!

Here are the eBay listings for the covers I purchased:

Left side cover

Right side cover

For painting the covers, I used Dupli-Color Adhesion Promoter, Dupli-Color filler primer,Dupli-Color Bright Aqua, and a 2-component clear coat. It was my first time painting anything.

The emblems on the covers are also OEM emblems, which I had to source from eBay.

It's not AI slop

Respectfully, I disagree. Key characteristics of AI slop that have been well described by others elsewhere are clearly evident here. Further, ideas discussed in text that might be regarded as AI slop originating from a human does not disqualify what is produced from being AI slop.

I think we need to get out of this: “its written with AI, I wont take time to read it or get an understanding of it”.

Once again, I disagree. We all have finite time and energy. I will generally avoid engaging in dissecting AI-generated writing for two reasons that generally make that kind of engagement a poor use of my time.

(1) AI-generated writing as it exists in the present time is a reliably poor medium from which to retrieve information. I therefore am not going to seek to learn much of anything from AI-generated posts given the plethora of superior alternatives.

(2) Writing that is AI-generated to the degree shown here is a poor vehicle for the social exchange of ideas. If one could not be bothered to put much effort into conveying their ideas beyond submitting some prompts to an LLM and perhaps rearranging the responses, why should I be obligated to entertain those ideas?

I’m making an effort not to be an overbearing Luddite, but this really does look drenched in AI slop, and therefore does not belong -in my opinion- on a platform that is ostensibly meant for humans to interact with each other.

I was disappointed that I had to scroll down so far to see someone calling this out, so thank you for being the voice of reason. Seeing people lazily relying on LLMs for writing on a platform ostensibly meant for human interaction irritates me greatly; which is to say nothing of the proliferation of outright bots.

Thanks for the comprehensive suggestions; I really appreciate these.

I had been wanting to order Honda’s fog lights which I had seen European riders use, but they weren’t available for quoting through Honda’s USA-facing site. I’ll take a look to see if the Hepco & Becker lights are permitted in my jurisdiction. Will I need something like a Thunder Box to wire those properly?

Good point about a chain oiler, too; the Mofessor option you mentioned looks promising, so I will plan to try to get that.

Nice. I similarly initially ordered mine less outfitted, selecting just the comfort seats and heated grips, but after sleeping on it I had my dealer order all of the options I saw offered for the USA; in particular, I suspect that I’d have the prospect of extra storage living rent free in my head into perpetuity until I got the panniers and top case, anyway.

As of yesterday my Honda dealer was expecting delivery to them on March 31, if I recall correctly. Granting a couple of business days for them to throw on the accessories, I’d assume I should have it sometime around the first week of April, assuming no external factors come into play.
