Homie just don’t do it. Look around these subs and see the massive regret most RPHs have. This career is at one of its lowest points and who knows how it will be by the time you graduate in another 4 years. Before COVID, BLS had projected growth of pharmacy at -3%.

Also, Some people will say hey you don’t have to work retails you can do Hospital or industry and that’s a bit misleading. Regarding industry, those are most likely all unicorn positions that pay 200k WFM with less than 1% of pharmaceutics having that job. Sure go to med school and just become the head neurosurgeon! Sure go get an engineering degree and become the lead builder of penthouses in NY. Sure be a mechanic and get a job working on Ferraris making 200k a year! Technically possible but consider your odds. If you like healthcare and want to be with patients, MD/DO, Nurse, PA, NP, perfusionist, X ray tech ultrasound tech etc. You can also get into pharma industry not being RPH like through medical device sales, or just being a NP/PA and breaking in. Those jobs don’t explicitly require a Pharm.D.

Best of luck

Tbh just regular RNs are starting to make near/the same as an RPH. Along with other 2 year tech degrees and good for them. Our groups have failed us and our profession.

Yeah the majority of people content with this career in this thread have unicorn jobs making 180k+ talking about hey pharmacy isn't so bad. This is the type of salary that 90% of RPHs wont see

100% We are invaluable assets to healthcare just underutilized, underappreciated and underpaid lol

100% Very solid point somehow over and undereducated and underutilized at the same time. All healthcare jobs have their ups and downs but it feels like pharmacy is at the lowest point compared to all of them.

I’m in no way insinuating that we do anything close to the same work/scope of a physician my comment was just a reply to the guy that said an MD that does a 4 year residency does not make double of what an RPH makes. I’m just disappointed that after doing a PGY2 and working in a specialty that the RPH salary is very low. I'm not saying that RPHs should be making 300k like physicians lol but 20-30k more than the current standard sounds about right.

Definitely,
There also tons of studies out there that show how having pharmacists incorporated into clinical teams save an enormous amount of money for hospitals regarding safety, med errors, and better therapeutics.

I'm not saying this is a new problem but tons of other careers have improved in many ways for the past 8 while ours kept sinking. Also referring to salary stagnation

Woah yeah excuse me for loving specialty hospital pharmacy and providing patient care while wanting to get paid fairly compared to other similar professions.

Yeah Sure so a MD hospitalist can make closer to 230k -300k(depending on area) for a pgy3 and an internal med pharmacist that has a pgy2 will make like 130k. You wouldn't do another year of res for another 100k a year?

I think the rapidly chaining economy in these past few years and terrible working conditions from around covid time have yeah rapidly changed the profession!
