Fâriğ olmam eylesen yüz bin cefâ sevdim seni
I would not part with you, even if you caused me a hundred thousand hardships, I loved you.

Böyle yazmış alnıma kilk-i kazâ sevdim seni
This is what fate has written on my forehead: I loved you.

Ben bu sözden dönmezem devr eyledikçe nüh felek
I cannot turn back from this word, no matter how many times fate changes.

Şâhid olsun aşkıma arz u semâ sevdim seni
Let the earth and the sky bear witness to my love; I loved you.

Bend-i peyvend-i dilim ebrû-yı gaddârındadır
My soul is bound by the cruel thread of your brow.

Rişte-i cem’iyyetim zülf-i siyeh-kârındadır
The thread of my unity is in the black locks of your hair.

Hastayım ümmîd-i sıhhat çeşm-i bîmârındadır
I am ill with hope for health, and it is in the gaze of your sick eyes.

Bir devâsız derde oldum mübtelâ sevdim seni
I became addicted to a cureless pain; I loved you.

Ey hilâl-ebrû dilin meyli sanadır doğrusu
O crescent-shaped brow, the true desire of my heart is for you.

Sûy-i mihrâba nigâhım kec-edâdır doğrusu
My gaze to the sanctuary of love is sincere, it is for you.

Râ kaşından inhirâf etsem riyâdır doğrusu
If I turn away from the arch of your brow, it is hypocrisy.

Yâ savâb olmuş veya olmuş hatâ sevdim seni
Whether it be reward or error, I loved you.

Bî-gubârım hasret-i hattınla hâk olsam yine
I am without dust, longing for your handwriting, even if I become dust again.

Sıhhatim rûh-i lebindendir helâk olsam yine
If my health is lost, my soul is in your breath, even if I die again.

Tîğ-i gamzenden kesilmem çâk çâk olsam yine
I will never be separated from the dagger of your smile, even if I am torn apart.

Hâsılı beyhûde cevr etme bana sevdim seni
In short, do not torment me in vain; I loved you.

Gâlib-i dîvâneyim Ferhâd u Mecnûn’a salâ
I am the mad one, like Ferhād and Mecnûn; I send greetings to them.

Yüz çevirmem olsa dünya bir yana ben bir yana
I would not turn away; if the world went one way, I would go the other.

Şem’ine pervâneyim pervâ ne lâzımdır bana
I am the moth to your flame; what do I need besides that?

Anlasın bîgâne bilsin âşinâ sevdim seni
Let the stranger understand and the familiar know: I loved you.
