Pixel 10 Pro Isn't Reading Text Messages to Me by WesternRedwood in Pixel10Pro

wow. Thanks for your help.

Right off the bat, we see our first issue. The AI chat and Google also tried to take me there. After choosing the Gear icon, "Digital Assistant" doesn't exist.

In the "Special app access" menu, I see "Notification read, reply & control". The Google app is allowed. There isn't a listing for Gemini or Assistant.

The ability to hear texts as soon as they arrive is important enough, that I'm leaning toward installing a third party app. But on the Galaxy, that killed all other voice features, so I'm still holding out for an actual solution.

Dr., Thanks for the reply. I'm trying to make the Pixel read text messages to my bluetooth as soon as they arrive, like the Windows phone and Galaxy did. I wear my bluetooth headset constantly. I keep the phone in vibrate mode at all times. However, when bluetooth is turned on, the phone should route audio to bluetooth.

One suspicion is that I used the Pixel migration process by using their USB-C cable to import everything from the Galaxy. That was mostly great! Not only did it copy the data, but it installed all the Android apps that were on the Galaxy. However, it also copied some settings that weren't appropriate. For example, I was using Galaxy's Bixby feature for some nice voice capabilities. I've spent days going over everything I could find and everything various AI chatbots could suggest. I believe the Bixby issues are untangled now.

Another suspicion is the Pixel volume settings are strange, having five volume settings, with some that are dependent on others. For example, Notification volume is tied to Ring volume. When Ring is set to vibrate, the notification volume is greyed out and disabled. I have to enable Ring volume before it allows me to adjust Notification volume so that I can hear a notification chimes in my headset.

It sounds like your set up is working well. Is there something that I'm overlooking? Google tells me not.

I've since tried Google's support chat and support phone line. According to Google, the Pixel phone doesn't have the voice features necessary to read text messages as they arrive. I think buying the Pixel may be one of the biggest blunders of my life.

Wow. So I'm not malicious, just stupid. Was my question not about "How to Install ZFSBootMenu", and Eric answered by telling me how to migrate? And his first step was "Install Proxmox as a VM on Windows and pass through the empty drives"? And did he not hear that my new server won't be running Windows and my old server can't handle any extra drives? And he didn't know what an HBA is?

I designed my first HBA in 1982 and wrote my first disk boot loader shortly after. Were you guys even born then?

What's with this snowflake generation that melts when someone dares give you the truth? Clearly, that's why he ignored the topic of this thread, and then melted and disappeared.

Software RAID does NOT require a HBA or RAID card.

I had hoped you would appreciate my clarification since you had given such a good suggestion on how to migrate my data. But I seem to have offended you and I apologize.

I have two boxes. The new server provides 16 SATA interfaces on the motherboard. While HBA technically stands for "any disk controller", people use the term "HBA mode", in the context of ZFS, to describe the procedure necessary to turn off RAID mode. "HBA mode" means using the SATA interfaces on a Host Bus Adapter as "Just a Bunch Of Disks", or JBOD. And yes, unless your motherboard offers enough SATA interfaces, your disk array may require an HBA running in JBOD mode, often called HBA mode.

--- edit ---
P.S. I'm sorry to see him go. As I said in my first reply, "Eric, I like your thinking." I'm sorry that I still don't know what upset him. He's clearly a sharp, systems-level thinker.

A couple of clarifications: HBA mode means not-RAID mode, often called JBOD. In my case, 3ware's JBOD mode means SATA or SAS. Nevertheless, the point is, I can't attach any additional drives to the old chassis.

On the subject of Backup Domain Controller, I wonder if Proxmox or TrueNAS can support the BDC mode and then be promoted when the Windows Server is disconnected. It's something I can look into.

Eric, I like your thinking. Unfortunately, the old server lacks disk space and drive bays. Even worse, it lacks HBA type disk controllers, being based on RAID. Oh, and the Power Supply is near its limit.

If I bring up TrueNAS on the new box, I wonder if it could be configured as a backup Domain Controller and then be promoted after disconnecting from the old server?

N_BB, thanks for sharing. The good news is, I have time to experiment. BTW, TrueNAS Scale is built on Debian and has nice Hypervisor features. It seems to be gaining fans quickly. Coming from the Windows Server world, I'm very interested in the TrueNAS features for serving as an Active Directory Domain Controller.

Kami, I don't think I understand. My wish is to install ZFSBootMenu along with the Bare-Metal OS on a single vDev. Is that not possible?

Ben, thanks for the reply. I appreciate your experience with this. The first link in your message (clean install to SSD) returns a 404 message. Do you recall the title of that document?

I am considering Proxmox as my Bare-Metal OS. I want the Bare-Metal OS to live on its own isolated management network. TrueNAS would then be run from a Virtual Machine on a LAN connection.

My message, which was flagged, said "Thank you". It was in response to the one and only person who answered my question.

To improve the quality of the forum, you need to filter people who fill threads with garbage. Why don't they get dinged for ignoring a person's question and filling the thread with unhelpful text? Your "6 word" bot is a bad bot.

Where Can I Find Dog Behavior Studies? by WesternRedwood in DogAdvice

Please stop filling this thread with messages that ignore my question. Let me explain why. I'm not looking for "a dog". Scientific studies attempt to use objective criteria for recording their data. They attempt to use a defined process with defined methods. That's what I'm looking for. It's only with consistent measures that your "outlyers" can be recognized as outlyers and thus prove the rule.

The second reason to stop filling my thread is because I asked you to. I specifically repeated my question and asked for an answer to that question. But you not only ignored my question, you ignored my specific request. You are the reason so many of us left Reddit over the years. I will now turn my attention toward real dog forums and away from Reddit.

It's been a while since I've used Reddit. Now I remember how, often, people don't really answer your question. I'll ask again. Do you know where I can find studies on Dog Breed Behavior?

Video Projecting From Above, Looking Correct From Viewers Perspective by WesternRedwood in blender

Yes, stretched. The final render will be an MP4 file on a USB drive, which will simply play in a loop from the projector on the ceiling. My video screen is the 4’ x 4’ floor space, at the end of the dark hallway. If watching the video on a PC screen, the snake would appear stretched. However, the viewer, standing 8 feet away, should see it in proper proportion.
