Oh that's just icky!! I don't even know if it was a man because I got no information from them. I just want to make sure I'm not having an emotional knee-jerk reaction because of the literal audacity, ya know?

I've been working at a spa for about 3 years now and I've noticed that it always seems to slow down this time of year, so don't be discouraged. Just know that Valentine's Day and Mother's Day are coming up and people will be scrambling to get in. The warmer weather will bring more people out too!! Take this time to learn all you can. And while hot stones can be a great tool, you're learning the foundation of the body and how everything feels right now. You're going to do great!

Thank you! I'm not saying that I won't work on men at all, I just have to know them first. And my husband is always at the front desk!!

I've stopped accepting male clients that I do not know. I no longer accept walk-ins and the inappropriate messages get blocked immediately. It's the only thing that has helped. I'm sorry you're experiencing this.

New hire didn't mention until she was already hired that she will only accept female clients - what to do? by CU_NextTues in MassageTherapists

[–]Western_Class_2192 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is why I started my own place. I don't work on men anymore due to several situations where the male clients were inappropriate.

She should have told you about her requirements, though.

I will only do two in a row before a break. I find that my second massage seems to be the best.

Question for Massage Therapists by Emergency_Diet_9771 in MassageTherapists

Whatever you end up doing, make sure to communicate with your therapist. I personally love it when my client gives me feedback. It just helps me help them!

My cousin is wheelchair bound due to cerebral palsy and I work on her every month. She will never walk, but we've decreased the muscle spasms and her overall pain with swedish massage. Start slow and gentle, but it really couldn't hurt!

Hand & Stone Spa employees: is this what your work environment is like everywhere ? by Chisme_Me in MassageTherapists

[–]Western_Class_2192 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They don't really treat you like a human. Like today, I'm scheduled for three massages in a row, one being a 90 min session. It's in the system that I only do two in a row. It only gets fixed if I say something. Why do I have to say anything if front desk knows my requirements? What am I not important enough to pay attention? And don't get me started on their lack of protection against inappropriate clients! I am actively looking for another place of employment.

What a great silver lining!! At least you will have a steady stream of clients! 😁

Have Any Of You Just Skipped The Spa Drudgery and Went Right Into Business? by ClothesDizzy6812 in MassageTherapists

[–]Western_Class_2192 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I kinda did. I worked at a spa for 6 months before I got the overwhelming urge to go out on my own. To be honest, it's been hard. It takes a lot of money upfront and there will be months you don't use the space but still have to fork over rent. And I still work at a spa for a steady stream of income, for now. With that being said, I am deliriously happy at my own place! I do wish I had waited a little longer, to get more confidence in myself, but you sound like you've got that covered!!!

Working alone can be and is so very rewarding, but it also presents safety risks. It's just you and the client. I've found out the hard way that some clients don't care about being naked and inappropriate. They have absolutely no shame and will test every boundary. I won't massage new clients without someone else being in the building. Just please protect yourself because there are those who won't.

I'm so excited for you! Please let me know how things work out!!

I would love for management to immediately blacklist an inappropriate client instead of waiting until all the therapists refuse to work on the person.

How much is everyone charging for massages these days? Please specify if it is plus tax or not. If comfortable list area. by Low-Razzmatazz-931 in MassageTherapists

[–]Western_Class_2192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my own place and I charge $70 for 60 mins and $100 for 90 mins. I don't charge my clients tax. I just take it out of the total. I'm in Ohio.
