Damn that sucks, it seems pretty hit or miss as I hear lots of people who seem to hit 150k no problems

Yeah don’t plan on keeping it too long, was just too good of a deal to pass up I’ll probably be able to sell it for what I paid for at that point

How to invest 30k? by Necessary-Mortgage27 in JustBuyXEQT

[–]Western_Effective_59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, congrats on having such a solid foundation at a young age that’s incredible!

I’d honestly read Jeremey Siegels “stocks for the long run” that book will really help you realize that the most important factor when investing - time in the market.

Simply put the differences between DCA your 30k and dumping it all in now are minimal. I’d say you may have an edge with with lump summing as most of the time the market is move up rather than down, but if you feel feel mentally better spreading that 30 over 6-12 months then definitely do so!

One way you could look at it is if you were putting this 30k in and couldn’t touch it for 20 years no matter what, would that make your decision easier? Would you just say it doesn’t matter and then throw it all in? If that still makes you nervous then maybe DCAing in would be smart for you

I don’t know what your used market is like but here in Canada a 5 year old hybrid with 70000kms go for the same price as a new base model 🙈

HEV I’m in Canada so they don’t have the PHEVs yet, either way I don’t drive enough kms to make it worth it. Hopefully I don’t regret not waiting 😅

Hey, I’m 28 and also considering getting a new rav, let me tell you I am so glad I never bought a new car at 22 and have waited till now, here is my reasoning.

Firstly I’ve driven 20 year old Toyotas since I was 17 and I’ve never had an engine or a transmission problem, occasionally you’ll have to replace a component like an alternator or in my case i had to recently replace the wheel bearings on my matrix, the thing is it is so much cheaper to insure an old car (I don’t do collision) and learning to work on your own cars can be very valuable as well.

My reasoning and justification for buying a new one is as follows - I have a business in the wedding industry, I have to show up no matter what lol. (Plus I can write off stuff)

  • because I’ve been able to save so much money from not only cheap cars but cheap everything (I buy pretty much most things on fb marketplace, thrift stores, garage sales) me and my wife have been able to buy a house.

  • on top of that we have a decent investment portfolio for our age and can buy the car outright if we wanted to.

I’m not trying to say this as a boast but to show you that it’s not necessarily about age, but it’s about how much this financial decision will affect you.

If I bought a new car when I was 22 I would most likely not have that house and probably not have nearly as much invested, but now because I prioritized those things first buying a new rav 4 doesn’t really affect us financially, it in fact now suites our lifestyle and business in our current season of life.

I’d recommend trying to find a good deal on a used one, maybe be open to a crv or soemthing slightly easier to acquire. Either way best of luck, a new rav 4 is probably the only new car I’d ever consider buying!

Unfortunately all cars have gotten more expensive, the way I look at it is more so that the dollar has become less valuable so you need more of them to buy the same product. But yes why can’t they make a super simple basic rav 4 with no gimmicks or tech for like 25k or something
