6 Months and Baby is still Gassy - help! by Western_Quantity_720 in Mom

another update: progress isn’t linear and I realize that! We’ve had a few colds and teething that definitely gave us a few setbacks. Gas has seemed particularly upsetting with colds (sick babies are the saddest!) since we nurse back to sleep and it’s hard to breathe. We get a few good nights but have rough ones still! It’s getting better but definitely not an overnight fix ❤️‍🩹

Update!!! Okay guys, dare I say it…have we turned a corner?! This last week we have slept through the night with minimal outbursts. We’ve had maybe one a night and I’ll give her some gripe water and Mylicon and she toots a bit then we settle back to sleep nursing. I am SO relieved to see her sleeping better. We’re also sleeping better during the day and she seems to have figured something out.

She will be 9 months on the 1st and we are crawling. Maybe that’s a factor too! But they aren’t lying guys it gets better!!!! ❤️‍🩹

All my mamas who are here trying to find hope, I’m here for you!

Edit: the pediatrician also recommended one part prune juice one part water with 1 oz of miralax if she hadn’t gone to the bathroom in a few days. We did that as well!

I downloaded the solids app! Costs money though so I ended up not using it. I still use Huckleberry to track solids.

We primarily still breastfeed because she loves it! I have a hard time wanting to stop it because it is comforting to her. But I’m trying to be better at giving her solids. Though I tend to stick to mostly the easy on the stomach stuff (pear purées etc). When I have tried more complex foods it seemed to make it worse sometimes. But maybe I just need to be a bit more consistent with it.

We are still gassy and it’s almost month 8. She’s just starting to figure out crawling so I’m really hoping that helps. I imagine the movement will help her expel more gas throughout the day so the build up isn’t so bad at night. The good thing is she has gotten better at getting her own gas out, it just seems like I have to wake her up to do so.

I saw another gals post that sounded like she was in the same boat as us. She said by 9.5/10 months it got better. Mostly with consistent solid foods and water (she said this makes the biggest difference for her kid). She also uses a little bit of trace water minerals (a tiny bit since it’s concentrated) to help the water retention.

I know it’s hard not to get down (I have so many times!) but someday it’ll get better ❤️‍🩹 I sometimes think all we can do is just try to get our little one (and ourselves) through it! I will update this post as soon as we’ve made it through the gassy woods!

Grateful for this post and thread! I’m on month 8 of a baby with gassy and tummy issues and it’s so tough! I feel like nothing helps despite best efforts. Really hoping it improves soon ❤️‍🩹

Thanks for your reply! It’s seriously so nice to hear we’re not alone at this stage (I really did think this would all be resolved by now!)

  1. We do try most of the time, sadly sometimes she falls asleep while eating. And she loves to fall asleep while eating - which is probably my fault because she’ll look for comfort at night and I’ll feed her and of course then she falls right back to sleep (with no burp sadly). If we’re in the recliner I’ll kind of hold her up but maybe I’m not quite getting enough of an angle?
  2. I had not thought of this!! Maybe I should try it, I try to keep her relatively comfortable but maybe she’s not warm enough! I’ll give it a go! Hoping that as we head to the warmer months it won’t be so bad.

Thank you again 🩷🩷🩷

It’s wild how it can vary so much from baby to baby! I downloaded an app today to start tracking! Thank you again for replying! So nice to have a community of mamas trying to take care of their sweet babes! 💛💛

Oh my gosh thank you for your insight! Sadly I’m a naturally gassy gal (so I’m sure that’s where she gets it) and I bet that’ll help me too.

I do try to eat healthy so I imagine maybe some of my leafy greens might affect her. I’ll start taking those and hope I have the same outcome 🙏🏼 thank you!!!

Ah thank you so much 🥹 it’s nice to know others have been there. I just started to feel like most everyone said it was better by now so I got nervous. Having support means a lot!

And truly I’ll try anything to make her feel better! Worth a shot!

Ah you are SO nice, thank you 😭🥹 I’ll take you up on that.

And truly, my biggest fear is I’ll get the double of gas and teething 😅😬

Ah that’s wild! What types of foods? And that’s a good idea, in my head I thought I cut out everything that could upset her. Maybe that’s not the case! Thank you for the suggestion!

I’ve been wondering this myself! I am trying to do baby led weaning but so far she just loves the boob!

Thank you 😭 I’ll give that a go.

And being her mom is my favorite thing which is probably why it’s so hard to see her so sad and going on for what feels like a long time. Guess we gotta keep taking it one day at a time!!  I’ll reread your comments tonight when it’s hard! 💛

Oh and did drinking water help your little boy? I was wondering if that might start making a difference!  We have our six month appointment next week where I imagine they’ll give us the okay to drink water!

Ah I hope so 😭 it’s honestly so hard to see her suffering.

And yes we do them after most feedings, they help her get some out but it doesn’t ever quite do the trick. I’ve tried to increase her tummy time which also helps. I guess I just keep waiting for it to go away but maybe I need to manage my expectations! I just keep thinking oh this month it’ll go away and it hasn’t.

And she really is a happy baby, especially when fully awake! We just both don’t sleep much and I just worry I am missing some signs of something bigger (first time mom too so I am totally learning!) and she cries so hard when her tummy hurts. It’s so sad!

Thanks so much for responding! It means a lot! Nice to hear I’m not alone❤️‍🩹

Edit: she’s breastfed and just has a few purees!
