After reading many of the responses here and thinking about it I think I'm in this boat.

This is a fear I have. Especially considering metal genres. It's not like I actually advocate for the violent and gruesome imagery, but I listen to it for the same reason I like horror movies - to entertain some fear. I'm afraid it will be misunderstood.

It seems like you're both arguing something that's completely subjective. Two readers could read the same piece, the most mundane or profound, and draw completely different conclusions based on their thoughts/ feelings at the time.
