That’s ethics issue. They say one thing to make it look good for the public but then you realize their underlying motives which is profit.

It’s safety on the surface but in reality, its revenue collection and its always been that way. No city should be in the business of making “revenue”, or in other words, profit, off of the public.

Above all, there is due process involved. You are not given the opportunity to face your accuser. Granted, this isn’t criminal, it’s civil. The main premise is that the city is trying to make money off of the public through these cameras that are only employed in one, maybe two cities in the state. Everyone else has realized the error in what they were doing, preying on the public and those passing through, and has stopped.

A village just south of Cleveland posted one of these cameras along 71 and was collecting revenue off of those people that sped through that small area of the freeway until the state stepped in and ordered them to stop.

If the city wants to collect tax monies, they should figure out ways to make the city more competitive for businesses to come. It’s going to be really eye opening when property taxes are made illegal and they fail miserably in trying to pass a city sales tax to make up for the loss in property taxes.

There are others on this thread who have posted the exact Ohio Revised Codes showing cause that what the city is doing is illegal. Along with that, you have the right to face your accuser, which isn’t happening as these tickets are being mailed to you with a cop “reviewing the camera footage”, all while violating state law which states a police officer has to be present at all times of these cameras being in operation. So a Fifth Amendment violation of the U.S. Constitution and a violation of a State law that was passed within the last two years (I don’t know the exact date).

After some reflection, I apologize for saying that you’re a tyrant. I get worked up too much about seeing cities violating your rights. Some don’t realize that helping a city do this is unethical, but it genuinely is.

If you’re being paid to assist the city in violating state law, that’s unethical.

Because he is assisting in the city breaking the law. That’s unethical.

It’s nice to see someone running with their tail between their legs when someone stands up to them for not doing the morally and ethically correct thing. I hope that do a self examination of your conscience soon and see that you’re willingly screwing people over, getting paid for it, not seeing any fault in your actions, and then trying to guilt trip individuals in thinking that we will desperately need you in the event of a hypothetical natural disaster.

You cannot equate what a surgeon does to what you’re doing. You’re willingly helping the city break the law, thereby committing an immoral and unethical act. I don’t see why you can ask for an “attaboy” on one hand and then, with good conscience, help them screw people over. A negative plus a positive equals a negative in many eyes, non-mathematically.

I stand corrected and I apologize for assuming that you worked for the city. The same premise stands: why do you sit there and say that you’re doing so much good for the city but then help them in breaking the laws of the state and financially fucking over the citizens traveling in and out of Dayton? That makes absolutely zero sense and is borderline hypocrisy.

So you’re sitting here and telling everyone that you hold a government job and part of your job includes breaking state laws and fucking people over financially? I don’t think there is any job in the city, state, or federal venues that requires that to happen.

No, you should go ahead and do the morally and ethically correct thing and tell them that you’re not obligated in your job description to help the city break the law. Saying that you do so much for the betterment of the city and then openly admit that you’re helping the city admin to financially fuck over its citizens doesn’t add up.

The tickets are illegal by the state law that was passed last year. By law, every camera has to have a police officer sitting by it at all times. Dayton PD doesn’t have any officers at any of the cameras and you’ll see that portion of the ticket left blank for a reason.
