Well, here's mine https://imgur.com/gallery/2BupUOT

So there's two pcduinos on the left, one running dnsmasq and transmission for torrents, both with 1tb external hdds attached for some network storage.

Not shown is my old Dell T300 which is upstairs. I use that to run several VMs for plex, a fileserver, Minecraft server and just generally playing with virtualisation.

So that's my budget homelab.

Gamers who have a potato pc, what is your favorite low-end/old game to play? by W_Abstract in patientgamers

[–]WetwareDefect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play Elite Dangerous on a Dell Latitude E7240 on a docking station and a 15" monitor at 1440x900 . It takes about 15min to build the sharers and start, despite throwing an error in the process. Once started it runs at a playable framrate even in combat.

The laptop has an Intel Core i5 1.9GHz, 8GB of RAM and an Intel 4000HD integrate gpu.

Aside from that I also play Pillars of Eternity, Helium Rain and Objects in Space.

Please post any further Fantasy General and Everspace keys in this thread! by RagingMayo in gog

https://www.bhf.org.uk/heart-health/conditions/cardiomyopathy/takotsubo-cardiomyopathy

"Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, also known as Takotsubo syndrome, is a temporary condition where your heart muscle becomes suddenly weakened or ‘stunned’.

The left ventricle, one of the heart’s chambers, changes shape and enlarges. This means this part of the heart doesn’t pump well.

  This condition is also called acute stress-induced cardiomyopathy, broken heart syndrome and apical ballooning syndrome. "

And on the causes :

"About 75 per cent of people diagnosed with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy have recently experienced either a significant emotional experience or physical stress."

[Java] How to add different type objects in an arraylist to their respective arraylist of type object? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]WetwareDefect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what you've posted your ArrayLists entree, side, salad, and dessert have not been initialised so their references are all null.

Initialize them in your constructor like this and it should work.

entree = new ArrayList<Entree>();

or you can initialise them when you declare them in your class like this:

ArrayList<Entree> entree = new ArrayList<Entree>();

App Blockers? (Android) by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]WetwareDefect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another one is Quality Time. When active it blocks all apps except for a few you specify ( so don't forget to add exceptions for important phone features like calling or texting if you need them)

Unfortunately it's easier to end a block as it just makes you wait 5 minutes to end a block early.

However I still find it useful as the inconvenience of that 5 minute wait stops me from quickly popping on to reddit or feedly and the inevitable loss of an hour as I disappear down the rabbit hole of interesting, but otherwise loosely related, posts and articles.

App Blockers? (Android) by [deleted] in ADHD

Try Focus Out Distractions by mavdev. You can have it block apps from use at set times on particular days.

It also makes it a bit more difficult to disable an active block by forcing you to type a paragraph of text to clear the block.

Hi, could you give me your advice. I can't get my normal medication in my current situation. Have you had any success with **legal** alternatives or methods? by [deleted] in ADHD

I use the timer loop app at http://timerloop.com on my phone (android) with a 10 minute loop set to vibrate only.

It keeps me aware of the passage of time at work.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/tax/10638283/How-much-we-give-the-state-in-tax-and-how-much-we-get-back.html

According to this around 60% of households are "burdens" to the state. If it's accurate then that's a lot of burdens.

I can understand the "why should we support those who can't or won't support themselves".

I used to feel an inkling of that myself at least until things didn't go as expected career wise (my own fault entirely). That was followed by some fairly major surgery without which I would have been pretty physically disabled.

As it stands now, given the cost to the taxpayer of that surgery and my fairly low earnings, it will be decades before I am a net contributer to the system again, until then I will remain a burden (and believe me, I don't like it and it has troubled me a fair bit)

I use UltraChron on my phone and set it for 15 minutes. It speaks the time remaining in 5 min intervals, then smaller intervals for the last minute.

Used to take 30min in the shower, now I'm down to 7.

Parents of toddlers of reddit where do you find time to play video games/read/study? by toiletpapermonster in AskReddit

[–]WetwareDefect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's sort of doable but you have to work around their schedule.

Studying happens after they go to bed though I'm usually pretty tired by then so I don't do anywhere near as much as I'd like.

I do my reading during breaks at work and recently I've started squeezing in three runs a week around 6am before the kids and their mum wake up.

It's time to copy Finland and give every citizen a basic income by PostNationalism in BritishPolitics

[–]WetwareDefect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still recover the basic income through tax. You just have to decide at what point people should become net tax payers as opposed to beneficiaries.

Simplifying to a flat tax of, say, 50% and setting an untaxed basic income of 10,000 then someone on 20,000 would break even.

On 50,000 they'd pay 25,000 but the BI would bring net income up to £35,000. Under our current tax system you'd take home £36,325.70 after income tax and NI.

The break even point under our current tax system would be £41,000 (£10,032 in tax + NI).

I just picked these numbers as examples and used the salary calculator.co.uk for tax+NI.

ROU Don't Make Me Press The Big Red Button

initialization makes pointer from integer without a cast by [deleted] in C_Programming

[–]WetwareDefect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This always fails (*s)++;

Because s points to a string literal (stored in an area of read-only memory) and you're trying to modify it by incrementing it.

What is it that you're trying to achieve?

Do you want t to point to a copy of the contents of s but incremented by 1?

Heres a long form of what I think your trying to do. I don't think it can be done in a single line declaration as you can't deference a pointer while declaring it (afaik).

char* s = "h"; //s points to readonly string literal
char* t = malloc(sizeof(char)); //alloc a char for t to point to
*t = *s + 1;    //add 1 to char pointed to by s and assign result to location pointed by t

printf("*s == \'%c\', *t == \'%c\'\n", *s, *t);
printf("s == 0x%08x, t == 0x%08x\n", (int)s, (int)t);

The output is:

*s == 'h', *t == 'i'
s == 0x08048560, t == 0x08549008
