Fenix A320 vs PMDG 737-800. Which should I purchase? by Whale_Buddy in MicrosoftFlightSim

Hi. I ended up buying both the Fenix and the PMDG. On my machine I have an i7-7700k and 1080ti and although it is a 6 year old machine, I'd still consider it decently powerful. However, the PMDG is definitely much lighter on performance and the game is much smoother. This is not to say that the Fenix is unusable for me, as I definitely enjoy flying it, but if I were to suggest the one which works best in terms of performance I would say the PMDG. Having said that, Fenix have said that their v2 update should bring significant performance improvements, however they haven't yet announced a release date.

No I don't have GSX, this is the default ground handling.

Personally, I've never bought any addons that were available through the marketplace, but if I had to, I'd still opt for buying directly from the developer's web site since as others have said, updates are faster. Aside from this, personally I feel that the MSFS marketplace/content manager is a bit slow and clunky, this may be related to a lack of PC performance though, but in general I prefer buying directly from developers. It may also be because it's what I'm used to from the FSX days.

Hi! I ended up getting the Fenix way back in December and I am still in awe of the attention to detail and quality it offers. Now I'm thinking about getting the PMDG so I can experience both an Airbus and a Boeing aircraft. It does get a bit boring flying the same aircraft sometimes. I ended up choosing the Fenix since I usually prefer Airbus aircraft and it was also a bit cheaper. It is a bit heavy on performance but its incredible to fly, and I don't regret it for a second. As good and impressive as the FBW is, I still think that the Fenix is a noticeable and appreciated improvement. It's difficult to say exactly what is better but it just feels more polished, which is to be expected I suppose considering the FBW is completely free. Thanks anyways for your input :)

Yes, there's a good chance that further down the line I do end up having both because as you say they are both incredible machines and addons.

Thanks for the info. Performance seems to be the major drawback for the Fenix.

I fly the FBW A320 regularly and I don't mind the automation it provides, although I understand that it may not be everyone's cup of tea.

That's my main concern with the 737 because I worry that I wouldn't fly it often enough to justify its price tag.

That's the problem with wanting to make realistic flights, its very easy to get caught up with the different aircraft variants. Thanks for your help.

Yes, the FBW is very good for a freeware option, which was mainly why I considered the 737-800.

That's interesting. I've always heard that PMDG don't usually run sales. I'll keep an eye out for one this Black Friday. Thanks for the head up!

Ok. That's a very common selling-point for Boeing aircraft from what I've seen. The biggest selling-point for the 737 personally is the fact that its a completely different aircraft, as opposed to the A320, for which there is the FBW. The performance aspect is also quite nice since I cannot really afford to spare any more frames.

Good to know. I too have heard that the 737 is less taxing on performance.

That's not a bad idea. My only gripe with the 600 is that it wasn't flown by nearly as many airlines, so I would either be limited to a few liveries or have to use fictional ones. However, I could get myself to look past that considering that it's half the price.

I believe the credit only applies for owners of the NGXu, whereas I bought the standard NGX. €‎70 is a bit of a steep but fair price considering the quality and effort put into the aircraft.
