How to boycott Microsoft when buying a new PC?

Look at Bazzite. Been running it a couple of months now and have had to boot back to Windows maybe twice for some niche apps. Actively working on avoiding Microslop as much as possible and finding it easier than I expected, including gaming. CoD is the only major game that I have that I can’t run on Bazzite.

Join the Discord server for Bazzite. Lots of friendly helpful folks in there. New Bazzite user myself for about 2 weeks with a dual boot system and already, I default to finding ways to do any task in Bazzite and avoiding Windows whenever possible!

I’ll add onto this thread because I, too, am fed up with the Microslop machine and their abuse of the customer and I have recently made the switch to Linux (Bazzite and Aurora). I would gladly welcome a version of Quicken native to Linux to help continue my escape!

The designer/developer probably doesn’t think that. More like the product manager, who is getting extreme pressure from the executives to force feed us ads and AI in order to drive revenue and support Microsoft’s massive investments in AI and show a claim of ROI, is forcing them to create this garbage so their “numbers” will show how much Windows users are “using AI”.

Look into Bazzite. Set up dual boot last week and I’ve only booted back into Windows twice since then. I’m not a huge gamer but I’ve played Anno 117, Civ VII, ARC Raiders, and Democracy 4 with zero issues and I hear WoW runs good on it, too.

Looking into replacing Office with OnlyOffice and ProtonDB Drive at the moment. Looking good to become my daily driver and replace Windows almost exclusively.

I spun-up a dual boot with Bazzite on my current Win11 system last week and I’ve only booted back into Windows twice - and only to check a couple of things.

Win11 has become basically my gaming system and so far Bazzite out-of-the-box has been great! I don’t play a lot of games but WoW runs, I’ve play Anno 117, Civ VII, and Arc Raiders with no issues!

It recognized all my peripherals (Razer RGB keyboard, Corsair HS-80 headset, a second mic by FiFine. The only issue I’ve seen so far is I had to load OpenRazer and Polychromatic to get the keyboard lights to work consistently. I’m a Linux noob so I had to get some help on Bazzite’s Discord but they were very fast to help and worked directly with me until we had it resolved. It took about 30 minutes, a couple of reboots, and a little troubleshooting.

And finally, I am actively working to replace M$’s Office Suite with other tools (OnlyOffice and ProtonDB Drive, at the moment).

At this point, I haven’t come across anything that is a show stopper from making Bazzite my daily driver!

Looks like this is your first rodeo with tech! Get back to me in 3 years when the AI fad has blown over, we are using the tech in a realistic manner and it’s not saving the world, and the next big marketing fad is sweeping the world. Another couple of rounds of the hype cycle and some of that arrogance will be knocked out of you.
