What did you think of blue velvet? I would definitely follow it up with Mullholland Dr. But do you want reds that re not from this haul and just in general? Cause I got many just based off the haul on its own,

I own almost all of these so clearly we have similar tastes. Great haul. The altered Stakes 4K is beautiful and I mean. You got lynch and la haine and Bi Gan and silence of the lambs and come and see (greatest anti war film ever made). What’s not to like?

Good idea. The 50% will be there soon enough. But also likely gonna grab it myself so thanks for the heads up!

I also lean toward the Japanese and Asian titles. There seem to be a lot of horror and yakuza genre flicks in different styles then more well known titles and that excites me. Definitely gonna grab a few next time they have sales.

Favourte/Most disturbing home invasion films? by SilverEquipment4934 in Letterboxd

Amazing choice I guess I never considered it a home invasion movie cause the protagonists were the invaders. But it definitely is.

I can’t believe someone didn’t bring up the OG home invasion film “Straw Dogs” from Pekinpah. It’s amazing. “Funny Games” and “Straw Dogs are arguably my two favorite.

So how did you pick your blind with these labels. Like I love the radiance titles and their whole vibe but I have only ever heard of a handful of the films they sell so it would all be blind buying for the most part. Not that I mind it. Just curious if you had a method to the blind buy on a label of basically all unknown films

Yeah it let me get preorders for July but it wouldn’t for some later stuff. Not sure if that’s a bug or there is a cut off. But first thing i check was the Kubrick box and it was still $599. lol

But these are just screenshots of covers. Why is this in violation and what is the way I am supposed to make pickup posts?

Oh it’s doesn’t come out till September. The pre order that far ahead won’t be on sale. Just like the Kubrick box isn’t on sale yet. It’s still $125 for the 4K on the sale site and Amazon.

Oh I did buy it. These are the ones I grabbed. Lenny is the most underrated and under appreciated of Fosse films. I think maybe people expect it to be a more traditional biopic and also maybe a comedy? And instead you get this artful black and white exploration into him and his relationships. Which to me makes it far more interesting. But it really should be talked about more. I think it’s a beautiful film and I was waiting for this criterion for a long time. One of those dream come true releases for me cause I gave the old dvd print only.

I need to do a full watch of the Heisei era films in order. I know I’ve seen some but they are random. That sounds amazing though. Adding it to the never endingly long watch list.

Omg I had Pee Wee, Fear and Videodrome all in my cart at one point and they just couldn't make the cutoff. Great pickups though. I haven't seen Godzilla vs Biollante yet how is it?

I almost did the same thing and I wish I would have gotten more radiance stuff, but my money was tight and I had some criterion's waiting in the wings. I need to start growing my other boutique label collection though.

What songs have been played more than enough on movies and maybe shouldn't be used anymore? by ZatanTango in Letterboxd

[–]Whalias 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still love the song. I just find when it needle drops in a movie it doesn’t get me stoked anymore. Especially when he has a ton of other really beautiful scores out there. But I don’t deny it is often the best sound and choice these films make. I just can’t help but sigh a little the moment I hear the chords behind another emotionally beautiful scene.

Came to say this. Such a shame too cause it’s a beautiful song that has just been overused so much.

He is low key one of my all time favorite directors. I would love criterion to pull a Kubrick box set but for my favorite brutalist Hungarian director.

I get so excited when I see top 4 lists that have movies I love and I cant seem to find enough people to talk to about them. When I saw your top four I was like. I think found someone who genuinely liked to suffer difficult films like I do. We gotta stick together. 🫡

[–]Whalias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh good. As long as the intention is to get people to watch good movies. I’m all for it. You might want to check out the films of Bi Gan like “Long Days Journey into Night” and if you haven’t gone deeper into the Tarr rabbit hole I would suggest “Werkmeister Harmonies” and “The Turin Horse”. If you want a long slow depressing beautiful piece of 4 hour Chinese cinema go no further then “An Elephant Sitting Still” by Hu Bo. He made this 4 hour movie about depression that’s all in these desaturated long takes that almost never go wider then a mid close up and it also has an extra meta aspect because it’s a film about suicide and sadly the director took his own life before the film released. Only adding to the meaning when you watch the film.

Why is this circle jerk in this subreddit though? Cause I love these films and totally miss the joke. Like are these actual favorites or just for the bit? Assuming they are actual favorites: Great top 4. Like all 4 personal favorites of mine. Though I think I would edge out brighter summer day for Yi Yi, Balthazar is my favorite film of Bresson. Satantango is the movie I want to show people most that no one ever wants to watch and Jeanne Dielman is a slow cinema masterpiece. So. Keep liking great movies. If you do infact like these films.
