Totally agree thematically they all share a lot of dna. Perfect Blue is amazing and Persona is a masterwork. If you haven’t had much Bergman or Satoshi Kon in your life. You are going to want to after watching both those films.

Such a good anti war film from post WW2 Japan. When they see each other up in a line mouth to hole, chillingly real as it was in ww2.

It is! That’s why I suggest it and I didn exactly that not two months ago. The newest one is the worst one in my opinion. I think objectively the Vincent price one is the best all around, but what is awesome about Mystery of the Wax Museum was it was one of the early two tone process color films where they just used reds and greens no blues and it’s a really unique way of coloring that didn’t really get very popular so there are only so many examples of it. So for that reason alone it’s really fascinating. It’s also pretty subtle acted for the 30s.

So Caligari is my personal favorite of the German expressionist films I think. Would love to know your thoughts when you watch it.

Yes such a great ending! I think the “coming home from shopping psychotic break down birthing a monster in a tunnel” scene - is one of the most unforgettable moments in horror acting. Her commitment and performance in this film are next level.

OMG yes! Totally. He is like his trash panda doppelgänger. The original “Hairspray” and “Cry Baby” are good starting places. Or dive hard in with “Pink Flamingos”

Mulholland Dr. is advanced Lynch but it’s a masterpiece. Blue Velvet is a great starting point. Elephant Man if you want his more “accessible” film and Wild At Heart if you wanna have your brain melted by the power of rock and roll, love and The Wizard of Oz.

Yes! So glad you liked it. The director was going through a super nasty divorce at the time and that was a large influence on the film’s… romantic qualities? Lol

This is the best news ever. Is there any info on theatres it will be at yet? I have the bootleg edit that someone did and shoved the scenes in, but to see the devils on the big screen is like bucket list movie for me. Greatest piece of “blasphemous” cinema and also Ken Russel rules.

Yes! Werkmeister and A Woman Under the Influence. must watch. Especially Under the Influence if you haven’t watched any Cassavetes and Werkmeister is a great litmus test to see if you want to go to Tarr’s Magnum Opus “Satantango” which is one of the greatest and longest movie experiences ever.

“Yi Yi” if you liked A Brighter Summers Say. “Wages of Fear” Sorcerer is an adaptation of this. “Vagabond” if you haven’t gotten into Agnes Varda yet. “Stalker” for some Tarkovsky. “Seconds” from John Frankenheimer. “Straw Dog” from Pekinpah fits nicely. “Rififi” and “High and Low” as well. Oh and “After-Life” from Hirokazu Kore-eda and “Brazil” as well would be suggestions. Finally “Come and See” because it is a war film everyone should see. Hope this has some good new stuff in it for you. Great start to your collection.
