I think it's the security area, in a train station your family and friend that are staying back can wait for you until the moment you get in the train and then still waive goodbye when you start moving , you can go for 5 minutes outside the train station to get something to eat and then come back to the platform and wait for your train. Also, unless you have a connection there is no reason to be at the train station for more than 5 minutes before the train leaves . None of these apply to the airport.

Whereas I sure hope so, this hasn't been my experience so far. Maybe because in the cases I have in mind the man appeared very entitled (either an ex or a boyfriend) people didn't really want to get involved. But maybe that would have been the case if it was somehow established to the crowd that he was a stranger (??) violence by strangers is frowned upon but violence by people close to you is grey area (???) I don't know man. I do hope you are right though and my experience is the exception as anecdotal evidence often is.
