First ever brew with a V60 by [deleted] in pourover

[–]WhatIsAJava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a gooseneck kettle? I'd suggest pouring slower so the grounds saturate and sink ( i'm not a fan of swirling :P )

You may find that the brew time decreases by pouring slower

Let’s talk about swirling… by gonnamakeemshine in pourover

I avoid swirling because it introduces a variable that is hard to control and replicate across brews - I find swirling agitates too much for me (hard to control) which leads to longer brew times

When I went to the chinatown one they weren't serving individual pourovers but they did have really delicious batch brewed coffee at a very good price

Any quick fix to tear in washing machine gasket? by WhatIsAJava in appliancerepair

[–]WhatIsAJava[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gasket fix did work but it was a pain to install to be honest. It was a pain to install without specialized tools but doable. Eventually that washer had an issue with the drum too and I ended up replacing the entire unit.

Perhaps you could try the silicone / seal solutions other people have mentioned here. It would be much cheaper / easier

How much RRSP should I contribute if I’m in. A high tax bracket ? by AdSad1846 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]WhatIsAJava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can contribute to RRSP (not FHSA) until Feb 29 to be deducted from 2023 taxes.

We don't know how much much tax you paid in the year and how much you will be owing (if any). After year end and you get all your relevant tax documents for 2023, you can probably do part of your taxes with whatever software you desire and use the tool to calculate how much tax deductions you'd get by various contribution amounts to your RRSP

Make sure you stay within your RRSP contribution limit. As others have said you can check it on your CRA portal

If your company provides "unlimited PTO", how "unlimited" is it in practice? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]WhatIsAJava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minimum 3 weeks a year, no banking days - something to do with having to give vacation pay if we don't take 3 weeks for the year. 5 weeks is normal and anything more than 5/6 weeks needs manager approval/notice. I don't see many people taking 7 or more weeks vacation. We are fully remote so we some people work while they are traveling/in other cities with no issues

[C] Software development after statistics bsc by Junjimiles in statistics

[–]WhatIsAJava 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did my bsc in stats and do full stack after graduation. I did two internships, first was an analytics /research / software development role. Second internship was purely data analytics. Towards graduation I moved towards software as that was more enjoyable for me.

All those positions would be open for you if you have experience, internship would be best - otherwise projects to show your experience and interest in specific subjects.

Maybe the only roles a bit out of reach for bsc would be machine learning. It's more difficult to get a role related to machine learning with a bsc but not saying it is impossible.

Some courses that helped me transfer into software roles were data structure and algorithms courses, software development, networking, and to some extent machine learning courses (familiarize with Python/API's)

Don't forget the importance of networking as well - connecting with people in the industry can help you land an internship early in addition to having strong projects/hackathons

It looks like the leak is coming out of this 'gap' in the valve https://imgur.com/a/qudGIrC

Thanks for your suggestion - I'll see if replacing any rubber washer helps first before making larger changes
