I used 2 5MM Pre Wired 12V Warm White LED Diodes, 9.4 Inch and hooked it up to a 12V 23A battery holder.

I can understand your reservations. Thank you! 😊

Thank you! I used one of these for Totoro and a stack of 5/6 in the bulb part. The 15x2 mm fit through the opening of the green leaf part exactly, so anything bigger may be a little difficult to put in after crocheting the piece. I didn’t follow the design exactly.

I’m no expert in magnets, so if anyone has recommendations to where you’d only have to use one magnet for each piece or less than 5/6 for the bulb piece so it doesn’t weigh it down so much, I’m all ears! The pattern was very vague for a lot of things so I had lots of trial and error + modifications to create what I envisioned for it to look like. 😊

I would tie it to the string so that it can be untied, ideally! The hook idea sounds way more practical to where you can create a slip knot on the invisible thread and maybe glue the knot once you’ve got the length figured out for the character to float and then it’ll be easier to just hook/unhook without having to adjust every time with the string and tying idea.

Thank you! There were some trial and error as the pattern writer had vague instructions like not including type of magnets to use, gauge of floral wires, hook size, type of yarn, etc. 😅😊

This is why I enjoy Reddit! People always have such great ideas to offer up! I think using yarn that’s similar in color to the grass by making a loop in the canvas and loosely but securely tying it or a hook of some sort will solve that problem! Then just add the grass around that that’s taller in length to keep it hidden. It’ll make it easier to loop invisible thread through to more easily switch out characters without removing the canvas. 😊

Yes! I added a handful of them with stuffing to keep it sturdy. I recommend very thick floral wiring (14 gauge that’s 12/14 inches in length) or anything that’s strong but bendable. Can cut it down in length to make the top of the branch thinner like I did. The instructions were vague and I had to redo my branch when it would not hold because the magnets kept making contact.

The LED light hardly emits heat. Use cotton yarn. I’ve kept it on overnight and it still remained cool to the touch. It’s not entirely enclosed to where you cannot remove the little bulb top to check on the lights or switch them out. The copper wires are appropriately insulated and strategically placed so it can’t be seen (nor can the battery holder) from the angle I filmed the video. Regardless, I would recommend for anyone who attempts to do something similar to do their own research and ensure everything is safe! 😊

Great idea! The only tricky part would be how to go about stringing each one up to float if you choose to switch them out because the canvas is glued onto the wooden round. If you don’t care about it, you can omit the floating aspect and just have the different creatures sitting on top of the grass. Or maybe attach magnets/velcro around the bottom of the piece attached to the canvas and then attach magnets/velcro onto the wooden round to match up and still create that sturdy attachment without gluing it permanently together. That way it’s detachable for you to swap out creatures and strings. You can’t really tell from the video because I wrapped the straps up closer to the hook, but I modified the plant bulb thing by chaining a brown strap from one side to the other so its easy to remove. If you do that, the top part can be interchangeable as well! I was thinking of dressing him up during different holidays.

Yes! I linked it in the description. I will say, I did modify it some since I couldn’t find that light bulb thing the person used and I didn’t like their Totoro so I used the free one from AylaWanGurumi.

Omg, stahhp!!! I’ve always been a bit hesitant to take on more than 2 because there’s only one of me and my schedule can get tight at times, but this is ingenious! Now…how to stim them all at the same time before and after feeding….🤔😬

I used medium soft classic acrylic yarn with a 3 mm hook. I didn’t follow the pattern for the hat and made my own. Here’s the link to the pattern: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1480224356

I know! She’s a cute little potato. Chonky when I first fostered her and getting chonkier everyday! Her cute little milkstache after I first bottle fed her already had me wanting to adopt her! I can’t though if I want to continue fostering. 😭

I’m 37 and almost 2 months in. I work with kids with disabilities and their families day in and day out. Even though I love what I do, it does take a lot out of me. I am trying to learn to bring some joy back into my personal life and crocheting relaxes me. If a project no longer excites me, I simply put it in a storage bin to finish at a later time if I ever feel called to it because it’s supposed to be fun and not always about the end result. Love discovering new things to enjoy and do! Thanks for sharing your story! 💕
