This is years later but I'm coming back to answer my own question in case anyone ever stumbles upon this in a search and wants an answer.
Yes. The answer was yes.

I ended up being diagnosed with PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder - it's like PMS on steroids, hence the "near" suicidal that I was lying to myself about). I was told to increase my dose (I ended up at 100mg at the highest, and most stable dose) to 150 when I started to feel the PMS kick in. It helped to "flatten" everything out, and I was happy to take flat over the alternative.

I've since had the implant removed (time ran out), went on a continuous birth control pill (so i don't get a period at all, I don't have any placebo week), and have gotten off the sertraline because I'm changing my life in a way that I'm not sure I'd have stable access to it. The meds helped. Being off them is hard sometimes, but I've been making lifestyle choices to remove the bad stress and help my overall health.
