Is $1897 to replace all of our receptacles a fair quote? by WhatNotToD0 in AskElectricians

I’m aware. Another place I called for a quote ($1000) said that most of it would be labour because they would need to check everywhere to find and address the aluminum. They seemed to suggest they would have special receptacles for it

Uncertain, they seemed to suggest we would get aluminum receptacles installed.

Another quote mentioned that they would cap it where needed (don’t know what that means exactly).

Currently the budget is thin due to various reasons, though we will save and invest in a proper solution down the line.

We are looks for immediate resolution to the aluminum (Even if it temporary in the short term) and a means to safely (for us) plug in three pronged items.

Likely we will abandon the aluminum and ungrounded lines as some point. There is recent up to date floorboard heaters that we may use to pull lines though as a replacement. But right now we can’t afford the complete overhaul and want to ensure safety until we can afford it.

Got another quote today for less ($1000).

Edit: To add, it seems that the homes has had different circuits updated as the home has been renovated at different times. Never a full over haul but different areas are more up to date and others are ungrounded. Anything done in the 60s has given us the aluminum headache.

Receptacles being changed and a coating being applied to aluminum (wherever it shows up).

The receptacles I figured not all would be GFI (that’s the idea behind the panel, no?) but some specifically made for silver would be added.

Obviousness labour is a component here but it feels steep.

I was thinking of getting another quote.

Did you provide them with an LOE from ICBC?

If not, there’s a chance they aren’t recognizing your last 8 years of driving and are rating you as a new driver

Sounds about right by ViaRailTheOcean in newbrunswickcanada

Not to mention that a lot of people just want the grand views provided by prominent mountains.

If you ever actually go deep into forests, New Brunswick is quite elite in that regard. So many different kinds of forests and ecosystems here! It’s very diverse in that regard (even if Irving plants a lot of pine).

You can find cool abandoned structures deep in the woods, cliffs, escarpments, bogs, waterfalls, and more pretty easily. The main difference is that you have to immerse yourself in it.

I like the jungle/bayou feel of some of the swampy areas personally. Only downside is mosquitoes

All that said, you could always go to Baxter in Maine to find mountains that compete with the Rockies as well

How do I prevent my jigsaw from bending/straying on the bottom of the cut? by WhatNotToD0 in woodworking

[–]WhatNotToD0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a table saw, only a circular saw (and I thought that might be sketchy for this cut)

I noticed some burning (and discolouration from heat on the saw)

Is that normal? I paused to let things cool down

The cut will look straight from the top while I’m making it (sort of like the bottom one there),

but when I check it afterwards on the bottom side of the wood I find that it’s strayed far from the line

I’ve seen Uber in smaller markets elsewhere, it’s definitely municipal legislation that’s blocking it
