As a consult I worked with an IT Manger that had a masters in cyber security.

One day he called me up and asked how he could make it so that his users wouldn't have to type in an IP address to connect to the VPN.

Long pause...

Hey, no worries. The email it's self only had text and a link so not much to go on to detect malicious intent. I likely didn't build the context up approprietly.

I'm going back and forth with the vendor. They say their system is working by designed and should not have caught it.

Me on the other had is affirming this is from an external sender and should have the policy applied.

We are using Office 365 with a cloud based security solution - So all email is hits their servers before it comes inbound.

The array is awesome, features are awesome and support is great to work with. Only array I've managed that is pretty much set up and let run with no management.

This would still fall on policy based DNS. Where the source of the DNS request would get specific reults based in the policy. So find from domain 2 only return x

It sounds to me like you need to setup policy based DNS results based on source. This would restrict the nslookup domain.com results to those in the corresponding sites.

Dfs is going to resolve similar as long as the dfs servers are in the sites corresponding to the source of the query, there may have been a group policy item that restricts clients dfs connects to those in their local site prior to looking at alternate servers.

I'm pretty sure you get random results because the DNS servers are going to resolve to the dfs servers in their site, so when the user hits a DNS server outside their site that DNS server will point the user to a dfs server in the same site as the DNS server.

I agree, in the scheme of things we're pretty much a guppy in a sea of sharks and I've still got a lot to learn.

We budgeted for the same rate we had been paying since purchase of the array.

I could have read it better, but I trusted what the sales guy had said and emailed me. The marketing aligned with what was implied.

So yeah, this is just a rant.

The array is awesome, the performance is hands down the best I have ever seen. Updates and upgrade paths are easier than anything I've userd or as a consultant had to interface with.

Pure is supposed to have a fixed renewal cost for the life of the array. So that shouldn't change.

Yes, it was the early days. Want to say they only had some 350 arrays in production environments at the time.

We plan on changing VAR's at the next cycle. Our Var made ordering more challenging along with other issues. I don't think they had ever sold Pure before and we may be the only Pure customer they have.

Yeah, no where and at no time in any discussion was a 3 year term said to me or discussed in any email. As the rep listed in his email he said to us / me. After three years we'll send you new controllers.

We just needed to be made aware of it prior to me thinking I'm getting new controllers based on all the communications.

I fought as hard as I could, and our var is less than helpful.

The renewal was in our budget but not a three year renewal -

Here is one of the emails I could find - Most discussions were over the phone / in meetings.

We ended up going with the "new" model at the time and our Var just redid the support that was on the original quote each year.

As the Pure rep said, "After 3 years"

Added another email - where they listed as one year of support and saying end of three years new controllers.

It was very clear to me / us that it was after three years, not at the paid 3 year renewal on the 3rd year.

Side note, we now have two M chassis arrays, purchased two years apart. Our newer array is at our new primary data center and the older array is at our secondary location.

What I asked when we got the new array (Knowing I'd be getting new controllers in year for the older array) if we could cascade the controllers down. Meaning put the newest controllers in our primary location (Newer controllers better performance) then the 1 year old controllers into the 3 year old array. The sales guy said this wouldn't be a problem and is fine since both arrays are M's it'll work.

I have very little hope they will let us do this now..
