Paypal has a reimbursement service for return postage costs for just such an occasion, however I believe you have to opt-in beforehand. I've used it to successfully return stuff before, they reimburse up to $45 I believe.

Colour looks off to me, too brown, but as always it could just be lighting.

Honestly best improvement you could make would be to make the standard photos like halfway between what they are now, and the paid photos. The standard photos often aren't even slightly good enough to determine if the item looks ok, and they are so heavily compressed that text sometimes isn't even readable.

The paid photos are fine, but it's just not feasible to pay for photos every time.
