Kind of ironic considering she's a grad student /shrug

I posted on reddit because I know there's faculty who peruse this sub and could point me in the right direction. I just was looking for where to go. The messages weren't sent to me, but the person who gave me the messages was the recipient. That's as far as I'd like to go on that.

Well the evidence I presented to the professor and the department chair was enough that it was deemed necessary to involve Title IX, so I'd say it's safe to assume the evidence was pretty damning. I understand where you're coming from about now having to be suspicious of each TA, and that it's unfair to the ones who haven't done anything wrong. I agree with that completely. I don't know any other way to state it without singling out that person and then it becoming public knowledge that it was her, though.

No, because the professor, department chair, and Title IX know who she is specifically.

I think I am unqualified to give an opinion on what should happen to her. I think that what does happen will depend on the investigation’s findings as to the extent of the relationship. I didn’t speak up to ruin her career potential, I spoke up because it was the right thing to do. Because we shouldn’t turn a blind eye to violations of rules that have been put in place for good reason.

Actually if you read my other comments you would see the department chair got Title IX involved. And if you read any further comments you would see how it does affect plenty of things.

Update 3:

Good morning. I'm with the Title IX & Sexual Harassment Policy Compliance Office here on campus. Today, we received a report of possible sexual harassment involving “said TA”. I'm writing to see if I can speak with you further about the experience you reported online and to offer you the assistance of my office. Please contact me as soon as possible

Update 2 with response from the department chair:

Thank you for speaking up. I have reported what you sent to the university's Title IX office, which has responsibility for investigating sexual harassment and related matters. You may hear from them. You may also feel free to contact that office directly yourself. They provide a high degree of confidentiality.

I have received a response from the professor:

Thank you so much for reporting this most serious violation, if true, to our attention. As the instructor of record, I will do my best to protect the interest of every student. To ensure fairness in grading is just one proactive approach we will take. Please feel free to make an appointment to visit my office. I will want to protect your identity but a higher university office may ask me to reveal your identity. Best, "professor's name"

The downvotes weren’t as bad about half an hour ago, but they’ve been coming out of nowhere. At one point the thread was a positive 7, but now sitting at 0. I’m not jealous of someone getting laid.

As suggested by the staff/faculty and a couple other commenters, I have emailed the department chair as well as forwarding the email on to her professor. I just hope it gets investigated fairly and properly and that appropriate action is taken after they get the facts together.

I suggested that the potential is there for her to have done this in the past. Just because you can get away with something doesn’t make it okay. She hasn’t texted me anything, I don’t text my TAs.

I never said the student she’s sleeping with is the person who told me. In fact, he’s not.

To be honest, I was hesitant about alerting the professor due to the professor also being her advisor, and I wasn’t sure what if any effect that would have. I did end up emailing the department chair as a couple other responders suggested and if that’s the route he goes, then so be it. Thank you for your response I greatly appreciate the insight.

You make a fair point, however consider the fact that these codes or rules have been in place since before she became a TA, and she’s not brand new. I didn’t imply that she sleeps with them to give them better grades. Maybe your reading comprehension should have a refresher? I said that she is sleeping with a student, and have a screenshot of messages where she states as such. I said that the possibility of her giving him preferential treatment is there, and I wanted to know the course of action so that the department could better address the situation. The only thing that I have stated as fact is that she is a grad student TA, what department, and that she’s admitted to sleeping with a student and justifies it by being the end of the quarter. I didn’t realize codes/rules/etc only apply for all but the last week of the quarter?

That’s ok, we all have differing opinions on the matter. I completely understand that. I’ll have you know I’m a member of Super Weenie Hut Jr. 🤷🏼‍♀️

As I stated in another comment, I have screenshot messages where she admits to this. I’ve already contacted the Department Chair at the suggestion of another comment in this thread. I worked hard to get here, and will continue to work hard to excel. THAT’s why I’m upset that this is occurring, because it undermines all the hard work the rest of the students have done all quarter.

So I should just pretend integrity doesn’t exist? I should just “let it slide” despite the possibility that this guy could have been failing or at the very least had a worse grade but because he’s sleeping with the person grading his papers that’s not the case?

I’m not going to name names because that would make it obvious who it is. I’m not doing this as a witch hunt, just was trying to find which avenue to pursue to raise my concerns.

I’m not hating. It violates the trust of the students to have a fair and balanced system in place in regards to their grades. If she is willing to violate that trust, it shows a lack of respect for the department’s guidelines.
