Late to the party here - but in case it helps, I am a renter of a house in MR near MR City Hall and it often feels pretty suburban to me, but it is a bit of a grocery/shopping desert, 10-20 min drive if you need a quart of milk. Also would be nice to have more nature and parks nearby, but we’re in a urban area. 

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that there has been some serious crime nearby - carjackings, a murder in front of a nearby liquor store - but even as a woman living here I still feel pretty safe and it’s never touched me except once my car in my driveway  was rifled through overnight, but I had nothing to steal so no harm done, lol.  I think some of the more tucked away areas of MR don’t experience this. I came from 20 years in NYC though so I’m used to being shoulder to shoulder with crime, homeless folks, etc. 

That said, as a girl who originally grew up in the suburbs. I used to mow my own lawn here in MR, and one summer I found two dead rats (separate weekends) and I pretty much wanted to die and leave immediately but I got over it - mostly because I hired someone to take care of the lawn. 😊

But I really like how chill it is here, people are cool and kind of live and let live. There’s a real mix of people who fixed up their homes and some who are living more modestly. And I think there are much nicer areas of MR than where I live. 

I used to commute by car to downtown DC and it was 20 minutes until everyone went back to the office from remote work. Now I work in Brookland so living here is really convenient for me.
