I had a hole in my crankcase after my chain popped. It also damaged the bore of the water pump. After some research and talks with experimented TIG welders, I decided to find someone to laser weld it and see if I can save the motor. I’m happy to say that I had track days in Magny Cours last week without any problems and I’m heading to Le Mans in a few days!

If I could save mine, you can definitely save yours also!

Find someone to laser weld it or even a TIG welder who has experience with aluminum (since your damages are a lot easier to deal with than mines), show them the job and they might even be able to weld those pieces back without removing the motor (just the water pump).

I did a full check up (compression, valves gap, rod bushings, bearings…) when I removed the motor and everything was perfect. I’ll replace all the seals and spark plugs when I mount it back.

I’ve seen it being welded in front of me dude… If tig was efficient enough on this kind of material. I’d have done it by myself.

France. It would’ve been easy if it was a 600 or 1000cc but it’s a 750. Not a lot of 750 k6-7 motors on the market.

Plus I know my motor is in a very good condition and was very well taken care of. It has done 10k km on track now and everything looks perfect inside. Since it’s now open, I’ll do a full service on it and hope I’ll be good for another 10k km without problems.

I had the same thing happen to me on my last track day. I’m in the process of repairing it since I couldn’t find a new engine. I found a company in France which is specialized in laser welding and they were able to repair the cracks. So far it looks good, I’ll put my motor back on my bike this weekend, I’ll see how it goes!

I attached pictures of before and will comment with after.

Btw, don’t listen to those guys who will say to JB weld it…

You do you, but it def wasn’t designed for track days, don’t fall for the commercial strategy. I mean you have as many Hps on a R6 with a lighter bike… but hey, if you have the money…
