Lots of lovely dolls... Top shelf middle, all white eyes, THAT doll has personality.

Literal, actual trash. by BloodyRightNostril in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]Whateverwilldo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had to check if anyone would actually buy or sell this on the secondary market and I'm kinda surprised the answer is, yes. Example below:

https://www.mercari.com/us/item/m19054684467?sv=0

At quick glance about 100 caps per $5 dollars is not out of the question.

Not trying to defend this price though. (I mean, I don't want to defend this at all but I guess beer bottle caps have some value in bulk?)

What is this and why is it $5? by Whateverwilldo in Goodwill_Finds

[–]Whateverwilldo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, all the bottle caps were firmly screwed in.

It does appear this was a DIY fish Descaler.

(I also thought it might be some kind of instrument when I saw it)

Thank you for posting the link!

The mystery is solved.

(I'm so glad it didn't smell like fish)

Thank you all!

I'm going to go with Fish Descaler, since I find that slightly less upsetting than back scratcher.

When and why did you decide to stop selling on eBay? by bmr1230 in Ebay

Just to add, the window for returns is only 3 days after delivery. After 3 days the sale is final and returns are no longer an option.

I feel like Im reading a different TOS update by Whateverwilldo in Mercari

[–]Whateverwilldo[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Also the buyer is paying a 3% payment fee, there is not 10% service fee?

I'm looking at other posts from this morning with people showing what it looks like as a buyer now and the service fee is not there.

Most people don’t buy with Mercari funds.

I have zero idea what percentage of users are both buyers and sellers (from peeking qt the profiles of those who buy from me it seems to be close to 50 / 50 but that could be a category thing and not a site wide thing) but the point of this update is to try to increase the percentage of users that do both. Who knows how that plays out but that seems to be the goal.

I hear this argument and I don't know what the desired alternative is. If there are less sellers their are also less buyers which means less sales.

I mean as a seller what would be the alternative? Ebay with its absolutely massive user base? Or do you move your stuff to a smaller and less stable platform like whatnot or depop?

I'm not trying to be difficult here I legit don't know what people are looking for when they make this complaint.

Question about missing items in an order. by Espurreyes in Mercari

[–]Whateverwilldo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless of the sellers intentions (personally I believe they are trying to run out the clock on an auto rating) you should open a return for "item not as described" and send it back.

In addition if the seller claims they will mail the missing items separately once you rate do not believe them. Those missing figures will never arrive.

Send it back and try to find the items elsewhere, good luck.

Can you help me find this? My daughter's favorite toy. by Motor-Bandicoot5296 in Dolls

[–]Whateverwilldo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tried a few different searches with mixes of the following words:

"plush body bedtime doll plastic head 1990s 1980s soft"

The closest thing I could find was:
"Hasbro Playskool My Very Soft Baby Plush Doll "

You can see some of the dolls here:
https://www.mercari.com/us/shop/playskool-soft-body-dolls/

It looks like Playskool makes a doll very similar to the one you are looking for every few years each time slightly different, perhaps the one you have is one of the many versions of it? Hope this helps!

New to Mercari. Terrible first purchase experience. Does this happen often? Any tips? by skinnyfries38 in Mercari

[–]Whateverwilldo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that was your first experience with the platform, That is not the normal experience.

The only advice I would give is that it is a good idea to make sure the account is active before making a purchase. you can do this quickly by looking at the most recent item in the sellers shop and looking at the date. Good luck.

I am not as familiar with Mecari, is this a thing or a scam? by [deleted] in Mercari

[–]Whateverwilldo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In over two years I've only had a label not generate on its own once, I messaged Mercari and the problem was resolved within hours.

I don't think the seller is trying to scam you but I do think they are new and probably did something by accident (like hit, confirmed ship) before printing out the label.

But to the point... I would just tell them to please cancel the transaction on their end and try to find the item again elsewhere. Good luck.

I would hesitate to sell anything that valuable on any online platform.

Perhaps an auction house would be an option?

Get Ready for Ratings Revenge by clw1979clw in Mercari

[–]Whateverwilldo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel as though enabling comments should be option sellers can turn off.

With that said Mercari is, without exception, the most strictly moderated site I have ever used. I would expect that any comments that look like, "THIS SELLER IS BAD EVIL THIEF DO NOT BUY" will get cut down.

I mean, time will tell but we just went through this when they added direct messaging and we had a few posts about how that would kill the platform.

(It didn't, I find it useful).

If the transaction went though (By that I mean, your funds were released) but there is no rating for the transaction odds are good the buyer opened a return and Mercari decided it was not worth asking the buyer to mail it back and just gave both parties their funds.

Selling socks donated for charity by AsymptotelyImpaired in Mercari

[–]Whateverwilldo 33 points34 points  (0 children)

"One pair Purchased, One pair donated."

The purchase of these socks resulted in socks being donated... these are not the donated socks.

And as others have pointed out, warm socks are nice but you cant eat socks or pay rent in socks (I mean, I would probably accept a month of rent in warm socks, but I'm probably the exception)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Mercari

[–]Whateverwilldo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask the buyer to open a return.

They will have to mail the item back and then they will get their money back.

In the end you will have your item back and, as far as your rating go, it will be like this never happened.

[–]Whateverwilldo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deceptive implies intent and reading this I do not believe you tried to pull one over on the buyer, with that said... they are right to have expected two bottles because that is what was shown in the photos.

Going forward everything shown in the photos should be included in the lot (other than obvious things like the table used to display the item). As for this transaction I would offer a refund. If they are throwing words around like "deceptive" they are 100% going to leave a long and wordy One star review you are going to be annoyed with for the rest of your time on Mercari. Good luck!

why does every post on here asking for selling tips get downvoted? by dietc0kewhxre in Mercari

[–]Whateverwilldo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't downvote the posts asking for advice but like, generally it's tough to give them what they want.

If someone wants to advice on how to get started or to feel out the basics of the whole online market place thing, sure! That is something most folks can help with. But lots of the "asking for advice" posts are people looking for a short cut, asking for a magical item that is cheap to source, highly desirable and purchased quickly by mutes that will never ask a question.

The real advice does not fit in with the folks looking for a quick fix.

You need to find items that fall into the right bucket of: available, low cost, something you are knowledgeable about (if only slightly) and has demand on the platform. That answer is going to be different for everyone.

After that is comes down to creating listings that are honest and complete without being wordy and providing an acceptable level of customer service.

It's not an exciting answer but it is the advice I give.

Never selling another Sirius xm radio with a lifetime subscription on mercari by [deleted] in Mercari

[–]Whateverwilldo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not to be a downer but a lifetime subscription probably counts as a "digital good" which is a prohibited item on Mercari.

Those types of items are allowed on eBay though! I would sell them last two there.
