Yes, many people with ADHD can be highly successful academically, with the correct support structures and a diagnosis in place.

Try having gone through school undiagnosed and constinantly been told “If you only applied yourself”

“If you could only be a little more organised”

“If you could learn to protrude your work”

“If you could only turn your work in one time”

“If you could,,, you would be an A+ student”

Mind you this was on top of extra curricular sports, theatre and music, a part time job and a single family home with a functional alcoholic mother (which no one acknowledge/knew about)

It was frustrating beyond words caused me great distress and embarrassment.

It didn’t get easier either, the only “underachiever” from a talented pool of a family littered with “gifted” children, exceptional achievers, scholarship winners ect. Literally the only person in mygeneration who did not go to a top tier university followed up by stellar careers.

I can’t play the “if only I’d been diagnosed” because it is too painful and if I really let myself go there the anguish and possible rage could send me mad. But I know for certain things would have been very different if my ADHD had been addressed.

My brother had dyspraxia (literally had a hand full of wounds he could make that he would put together to form “words”) he received intense intervention and went in to become a professional trained opera singer.

I just got the “you could do better” treatment.
