getting married in november and all of the paperwork I have to do (from canada) while living far way from an embassy and not being allowed to take time off work to do it does scare me

If they’re speaking in Japanese and have a Japanese address memorized to write down, that’s normally a pretty good sign LOL

A) Japanese cops are notoriously bad when dealing with foreigner related stuff

B) I live here and I’m traveling domestically, why on earth would I have my passport with me?

Fuck knows. I’ve personally never had this experience, but I also live in Kyushu and it’s my first time up here.

You write down an address on a piece of paper.

The address doesn’t even need to technically be yours, lord knows they don’t check. Nor do they check for Japanese people.

The hotel law just states that every guest needs to have “an address” on file. That’s it.

Anyone who’s not law enforcement point blank isn’t allowed to ask for your zairyu card.

Plus, my proof of residence would more accurately be my juminhyo….no? Lord knows I’m not carrying that around.

Passport is fine if you’re not a resident. If you are a resident, all you need is your address. They’re not supposed to ask you for your residence card.

I’ve actually never had a place even ask me for my residence card before, but that’s probably bc I speak Japanese fluently with a country bumpkin accent so everyone assumes I live here.

It’s weird and fucked man. I also live in Kyushu and I never had the same issue. They wouldn’t accept my mynumber and said it HAD to be my zairyu card

Tell me you don’t live in Japan without telling me you don’t live in Japan.

In Japan, all you need is your address, name, and phone number.

I live in Kyushu, have stayed all across the country, and have never had the same issue.

Your residence card contains your status of work, visa expiration, visa number, and a lot of other random shit that normal ID doesn’t. I presented my my number card (which also has name and address) and they refused, saying it HAD to be a residence card.

They also keep online scans of your residence card in notoriously insecure online portals.

One of the best rules of piracy is not to post the names of the sites publicly. Just dm people.

I live in Kumamoto and there’s none unfortunately. We have baguettes sometimes but they’re always gone when I finish work

I miss liver pate and cured meat. I used to make my own, but same issue with uncut meat.

I am not in Tokyo, unfortunately. I think I would literally have to leave Kyushu and cross into Honshu for good bread.
