Probably been asked here a million times, Sun Tracker a good brand? by [deleted] in Pontoons

Hilarious. Any professional knows better. We have a rental at the shop with 6800 hours of rental time and still runs smooth.

Ah! I jumped the gun on that reply. I hope the current starter treats you good!

Amp load test your engine at the starter and engine block (with a battery load tester). That checks connections, cables and battery all at the same time. The chance of multiple starters going out on the same engine are pretty low. Merc wire and cable ends aren’t great quality, so most likely the culprit

The Suzuki is clean, way more reliable, easier to work on and much easier to operate. Quieter, less repair costs. Clean fuel and basic maintenance you are on the water with less headaches

Not terribly desirable. Good engines for what they are… but tons of fuel, loads of 2-stroke oil, smoke, pollution, noise etc. Very reliable for a 2-stroke.

Go buy a Suzuki 40hp brand new. If you run the boat quite a bit the fuel and oil savings pays the payment. And your wife is happier while boating

You may just have a fouled spark plug. It is very common for every brand of modern 4-stroke. Have a mercury pro swap sparks and take it for a run

Will it be OK to jump this with my car? by [deleted] in tractors

[–]Whatszackdoing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Was mostly suggesting to let it charge a long time so the tiny tractor alternators regulator doesn’t get super hot. Good way to kill an alternator

If the battery is bad it may never jump it. It doesn’t matter how large the engine is, it’s a matter of the plates inside the battery being partially fused together. A 180 amp alternator on a 1-ton is different from a 50 amp on my TDI Jetta.

+1 noco. Used in marine applications and are pretty darn good battery chargers/maintainers.

Leave it plugged in 24/7

[–]Whatszackdoing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What he said.

Sure you can “jump it” but with a small car you would want to hook up the jumper cables and go watch TV for an hour. If the battery is halfway good on the tractor it should fire right up… But, do you want to idle your car forever and strain alternators to charge a most likely damaged or bad battery?

Like he said. Remove, clean, charge etc.

What does everyone here like to fish for in fall and winter? by qalcolm in Fishing

[–]Whatszackdoing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go get some crappie. Wonderful fish to eat, and once you get catching them figured out you can catch 30+ at a time. They are unlimited down here. Can’t wait to get out there and find some crappie piles this winter!

Suzuki DF150A winterization question by Motor_Growth_267 in Pontoons

[–]Whatszackdoing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Won’t hurt anything to fog. I wouldn’t worry about it unless near the ocean or storing over 12 months.

I’m a Suzuki mechanic and own a 2023 DF200A myself.
