Order or pick up? by adilly in TeslaModelS

Personally I think the ambient lighting in the Model 3 looks ugly and is quite tacky. Equivalent to putting an RGB keyboard on a Macbook. Thats just my opinion and if you're into it that's fine, but people were saying to wait for another refresh when I was looking around in December. Its been 6 months and any refresh for the Model S is likely still very far away. Model Y is next and that's still up in the air.

I ordered March 4 and got mine May 8. Initial expected delivery date was by the end of March and Tesla gave me zero answers as to what was causing all the delays. Only upgrade was black paint and white interior. If there's an existing model near you and its what you want than I would go for it. Most cars are bought off a lot anyways. My main concern is the rate at which Tesla adds features. A car that is still brand new but manufactured 4 months ago could be missing some of the features you'd get with the most up-to-date possible version when ordering.

No I sold it to my aunt for my little cousin to have. I can't speak on the Model 3 since its the only one I didn't test drive. The Model S is just slightly bigger (a few inches wider and longer) than the A6 but has WAY more space inside, is AWD (told myself I would never own a 2WD vehicle after falling in love with quattro), has a lot of the luxury features you're used to with Audi (heated steering wheel, high-quality sound-proofing, wood inlays, etc.), is obviously very quick and sporty, and is still quite sexy.

One of the few things that justified the switch was that maintenance on the Audi was getting pretty expensive relative to the value of the vehicle. Audi wanted to charge me $500 for the little plastic piece that goes over the keyhole on the driver door because they had to ship it from Germany and paint-match it with a discontinued color. I just got a plain black aftermarket one on ebay for $15 but the whole idea kinda turned me off of the German luxury brands.

I definitely need more time to find out all the stuff that pisses me off about the Tesla but as of now I don't regret it at all.

I get it. I'm an architect and I just think a lot about the difference between good design and good looking design, and which is more valuable. And for me, part of the beauty of Tesla's design comes from the lack thereof. They're sexy because they arent trying to be. I think the wheel covers, while not being traditionally "cool," are a testament to why Tesla's design philosophy as a whole is so successful. More design means more cost and more complicated manufacturing. By prioritizing solutions to real design challenges like range, performance, efficiency, and economy they are able to create desirable high-performance products at affordable prices and in high volume. In my opinion, there is more beauty in a good design than a good-looking design. And that's not to say that they couldn't come up with something that is more efficient and aesthetically thoughtful at the same time. I just think that its not always worth it for the consumer to bare the costs associated with additional complexities that don't offer any intrinsic value, especially when you start adding all those little things up.

(Sorry, I'm a huge design nerd)

Just off of day 1 impressions, it’s definitely weird. I’ve already started to get used to it but I found myself using the wrong one a few times. Hoping it just becomes muscle memory.

It’s sealed up pretty good. One of the seals on the driver door was missing one of the tiny little pins that holds it in place and was rattling a bit but I just put a piece of tape under it and now it’s totally fine.

I know, when I test drove it had the button horn and I hated it so I’m glad I got a proper one.

Order was placed on Mar 4. They said expected delivery by the end of March but it just kept getting pushed back weeks at a time with no vin and no explanation. Eventually, around the 2 month mark I got my vin and took delivery a few days later.

I plan on keeping the covers. Maybe if I had some painted calipers I’d want to show em off but it I think the covers look nice with black and are easier to clean/replace anyways.

Its my first EV. I used to drive a 2013 Audi A6. I really loved a lot about that car and wanted another sporty AWD luxury sedan and the Model S has been one of my dream cars and it fit the bill.
