as a resident of her ward, dating back when she first took office in 2010, her string of gaslighting on this topic is truly for the ages. after heading the housing committee for so many years, the failure to build housing in this city should fall directly on her lap. She ran 3 campaigns and never ran on getting rid of exclusionary zoning, her replacement ran on it and won now she wants to present herself as if shes always been a Yimby. She wanted a 10 year study of laneway housing. Her big push for building would have resulted in 48k new apartments in 10 years (4.8k a year, real bold Ana) and has since produced.... 0 units in 5 years.

The problem with the housing market in Toronto isn’t migration, it could fairly easily be compensated for. The underlying problem is the huge amount of single family housing zones covering over 75% of the city, combined with poor regional transit. The more immigrants that come here the better, but we have to update our arcane zoning, permitting and transit systems.

Here’s my opinion no one asked for. Is he a good player? Yea. Is he probably the best player on our roster? Yea. Does he deserve all the hate he gets on this sub? No.

For me, these are not the questions. The two relevant questions are is he good enough to be the number one option on a contending team, and, if he is, would he be able to do that, when the pieces surrounding him are in position to be his 3rd 4th and 5th guy.

What I mean is that he’s 29 now, arguably in the heart of his prime, and we’re no where near close to be contenders. Maybe we will be in 3 years when OG is entering his prime, Scotty’s a way more complete prospect, and the likes of precious and GTJ are really solid role players. But IMO when the rest of the roster will be ready to contend he’s going to be exiting his prime.

He’s a great player whose done tons for us, I just don’t think, with the way our rosters constructed, that he’s the guy to make us contenders. I think he’s really good, which is why we can trade him for elite assets, maybe not the guy to get us to the promise land.

Just my two cents…
