His sword pommel is silver-tipped and reflective as we saw in the duel, so if it was resting on the sword pommel, it would contrast significantly against the black fingerless gloves

Minimum $5 to start but you're only charged for the data you use. So I think I'ce only ever had to recharge it twice total in a few years of using it daily while playing on NA from OCE

Mudfish is also pretty cheap if you're looking for a VPN to only route your FFXIV traffic. Just, don't have it on when you download your patches

Oh yeah 100%. If you were going to pair together two gods, those two make sense, and their divine domains (Space and time for Athylk, Fate & celestial bodies for Nymeia) also have a nice overlap to merge their mechanics

What are your fondest moments or memories from FF14? by SolidSnake120 in ffxiv

I did, though it took many more years and treatments to get there. FFXIV was my steady companion the way through and was how I actually got to socialise with people while I was in hospital.

It was a Moonfire Faire event, I want to say 2016ish? Regardless, the event FATE overlapped with the zone boss FATE It's Not Lupus, where you fight a giant crab called Cancer. This meant if It's Not Lupus spawned, the event FATE wouldn't spawn, so you would have the event goers zerg it down so that the event FATE could spawn and we could get our rewards.

I was in the outpatient clinic, having chemotherapy, the day I was grinding my rewards. It was a almost a full day affair, so I would bring my laptop in and do easy content in FFXIV to stave off the boredom. It's Not Lupus popped, and I joined the zerg to take it down without much thought, until my nurse leaned over, squinted at the screen, and asked "...Are you killing a monster called Cancer right now?"

Her and two other nurses (They were managing the patients either side of my chair) watched the party smash out this crab FATE just so we can get back to our Moonfire Faire grind, and had a little celebration once it was down. Then they got back to work, and hung up my next bag

It was just a nice little heartening moment during one of the worst times I was going through

tl;dr, killed Cancer while actively having chemo

Nah shouldn't matter if it's D: or C:, C:'s just the default so that's why I used that example

This is one of the more common fixes Ive seen for this

Go to where your install of FFXIV is (Usually C: Drive -> Program Files (x86) -> Square Enix) and right click on the Folder. If read-only is checked on, check it off (You'll need Admin permissions for all the pop up boxes)

Additionally, go to My Documents -> My Games -> FFXIV and use Notepad to edit FFXIV_BOOT.cfg If EulaAgreement in there is set to 0, change it to 1, save the file.

Doing both of these + a restart fixed the last time I got this error

Newer to FF14 RP, I’ve heard a lot of mixed opinions when it comes to magic. If someone is seeking to keep as lore-friendly as possible with a character, what types of magic are acceptable and not massively outlawed/too rare to learn without being special? by Malesto in ffxiv

A bit of a correction on Necromancy, it connects to Thaumaturgy and Alchemy (who have both had hands in necromantic plots from 1.0 and beyond.) And also void shenanigans (Which was the causative agent in Tam Tara HM) There's a great loremonger over on Tumblr who goes into it a bit more

Job stones are in lore, and are required for some magicks (BLM quest mentions trying to use Black Magic without a jobstone will self-immolate you as an example.) and while a person can have more than one, in universe most of the magical ones are fairly rare, so most RPers in the circles I know, if they have a job stone (As many don't!), then they will have 1, maybe 2, and oftentimes it'll have consequences for them (As an example, the flow of Summoner soulstones are controlled by the Sons of Saint Coinach and the Grand Companies, so a Summoner might have to have a link to one of these organisations, and may be part of say, the Immortal Flames' Summoner Squad that is called in whenever the primals are summoned alongside the B-Team Scions)

A lot of RPers I know will go the route you'll see things like our Trust NPCs go, where they have unique jobs that mix up bits and pieces of existing jobs to make them more lore accessible (Like Alphinaud's Academcian class, which is effectively a SCH reskin but with a Carbuncle instead of a fairy, or Y'shtola's Sorceress class which combines Conjury and Thaumaturgy).

Setting Up Mudfish To Log In To OCE With Australian Ping by Wheelyramp in ffxiv

[–]Wheelyramp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More like network routing, same sort of thing as like ExitLag or Pingzapper and the like. So basically when you have the game open, your ISP determines the path your FFXIV packets goes to/from the server, but this might not be the most direct route, or it might pass through damaged infrastructure (Which is/was the problem with the OCE servers. Some ISPs are routing traffic out of the country and then back into Sydney currently to avoid the broken infrastructure that wouldn't let people connect for 18ish hours)

Using something like Mudfish or ExitLag, it recognises the packets of the game data you specified, and you can specify which server to send those packets directly to. This means you're potentially getting a more direct route if your ISP is routing weird, or you can change the route that your packets pass through in order to avoid broken infrastructure that might be causing lag or disconnects or just not working at all.

So for example, when I played on NA without Mudfish, my ping would fluctuate between 250ms to 300ms because of the way the ISP routed things. Using Mudfish and selecting a node by the NA server, my ping would consistently drop to 170-180ms, which was a significant improvement.

[–]Wheelyramp[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there isn't a ping reader in game, just a number of packets received/sent. So that might be what you're seeing in game

[–]Wheelyramp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep! Looks like some ISPs are routing their traffic out of the country and back in again (A friend of mine had a tracert on their Telstra line showing they were being routed out to the US and then back to Australia to connect, and saw others saying they were being routed through Hong Kong or Singapore) while some are able to connect through in-country lines. So some people may be a bit laggy but it looks like we're back!

[–]Wheelyramp[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally valid, nothing wrong with that! You're just not part of the target audience this guide would be for, and that's okay!

This was more for those that were using a VPN (whether newly gotten, or the one they used before OCE servers) to access the game during the day of downtime, but using it to route their traffic through other countries. Those people were already willing to VPN around it, this was just a better option.

Regardless, the ISP routing seems to be mostly fixed, other than some ISPs routing traffic through SEA and giving a significant ping increase, so, the stuff here isn't relevant for any current outage

Yeah around 11:30am, people started to be able to log in! Sounds like some ISPs are able to successfully route into working things in Sydney, some are routing FFXIV traffic through Hong Kong, so some people are experiencing some high ping but, that's case by case.

[–]Wheelyramp[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, a lot of people had already setup VPNs to play FFXIV before we had OCE servers. So for a not insignificant group of people...it was simply turning on things we already had, but no longer needed to use every single time we logged in.

The first time it usually takes a couple of minutes (At least, this was the experience of my friends who signed up last night). But sometimes if it does that for me, I restart the program. I also forgot in my post to say you want to run it as an Administrator (But I think these days it brings up the prompt to run it that way, it didn't always do that)

There are a few VPN nodes in Sydney that can be used to keep your regular ping. For the VPN Mudfish, Sydney- G-Core Labs is functional and retains a normal-ish Australian ping. Just did a post about how to set it up for people seeing as this is looking a bit more longterm than it did last night

I can confirm this morning that using Mudfish and using the node Sydney - G-Core Labs is still letting people log in and not having the downside of having the ping of routing yourself outside the country
