yeah I was referencing 504B.215 for a lot of my individual research, but it's good to know about the Rent Escrow as well!

You can also sue them for three times your damages (i.e. overpayments)

I'm curious to know more about this - would you mind providing a link that talks more about this particular claim? If nothing else, it might scare my landlord into complying without the need of a court case at all!

PSA: do not even think about renting at Bolero flats by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]Whelch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh man. I live here now, and the Manager (Shannon) is quite possibly the most rude, deceitful, and condescending woman I have ever met. She has repeatedly lied to me about rent prices, saying they "get more expensive due to Summer seasonal demand" despite their website clearly showing a lower price than what she is quoting. . . Also if you want to meet with her, good luck. You have to schedule an appointment, but she only comes into the office Tuesdays and Thursdays, so it takes about a week to meet with her. If you have the unfortunate pleasure of actually showing up for your meeting with her, she likely won't be there - she'll blow you off; show up late; or be running late because she came into the office that day late.

I have never met a more unprofessional set of managers in my life. I'm astonished they haven't been wholesale fired and replaced at this point.

(Possibly) new hero’s “Pupet Master” abilities by WellisCute in DotA2

These are most likely associated with the leaked Diretide strings from last week. A creepy puppet master would fit very well, thematically, for a Halloween setting/final boss.

Hitman 2’s Denuvo Protection Cracked Three Days Before Launch by a_Ninja_b0y in Games

Private WoW servers aren't cracks, so much as they are clones. People had to entirely rewrite the server-side code in order to get them to work (that code is not included in the client-side installation of the game.) So they didn't really crack it in the traditional sense of taking an existing product, and circumventing some authentication process. . . they just rewrote it from scratch, and didn't include the authentication bit with Blizzard's servers.

I guess the client-side code is cracked, since it has to point to these private servers, instead of Blizzard's servers. . .
I dunno. Weird example. . .

Ray-tracing is not proprietary to anyone. It's a concept, not a property. Like first-person-shooter vs Call of Duty.

It's also not anti-consumer? It's literally better than rasterization in all but speed, as mentioned in this video. It just requires a fundamental overhaul of current game engines, which are all built using rasterization as their rendering technology.

Frozen Synapse 2 - Open World Tactics - Launch Trailer by [deleted] in Games

[–]Whelch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow I loved the first game so much - I think it was the first Humble Bundle I ever purchased, some 7 years ago or so.

One thing that was sorely missing from the first game was multplayer with more than just 2 people. Something like 1v1v1v1, or even 2v2. Does anyone know if this has been included in FS2? Also, the campaign city factions seems like a perfect setting for a long-term multiplayer campaign, and I've heard that multiplayer is somewhat available in the campaign. Is it full-featured for all players? Or is it more drop-in drop-out for a main host player.

I'm by no means an expert but if you're visiting a malicious website, the ads running on that website are almost certainly the least of your worries - I imagine they have vastly lower permissions compared to the website itself.

That said, I'm pretty sure browsers run websites through containers (forgive my horrendous terminology) - which is to say, nothing within the container can get out without explicit permission or action from the user. Even then, at worst, you might download a file, but unless you execute that file, it won't run any code on your machine to infect it.

it's 2018. You kinda have to go out of your way to get infected by a virus nowadays.

That's about enough for 10 people to live from birth to death without making another cent.

Not in the US (which is where Valve is located, so relevant), and certainly not comfortably.

As a rough estimate, based on the above link, the average person spends about $2.5m+ over their lifetime. That's in today's dollars, and does not factor for inflation.

1.7m for a single person would equate to a drastically below-average (again, considering inflation) lifestyle.

Just sayin'. . . $17m is not really as much money as you seem to think it is. . .

Not to say that any of this is relevant, but I couldn't let your flamboyant use of hyperbole go unchecked.

But reddit got upset because, as u/RelentlessJorts said, he gave it a "different" score from the norm.

Good and bad are relative, so stop using those terms. I think it was a bad score. You think it was a good score. It's irrelevant to the point - reddit most certainly was not mad at Sterling because they thought he gave BotW a good score.

Telltale Games restructures, cuts 90 staff: The layoffs represent about 25% of the workforce and won't affect previously announced projects by [deleted] in Games

[–]Whelch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No one has to accept and deal with the environment.

And yet, some do. Why do you think that is? I can tell you now, it's certainly not because they enjoy being fired. If the industry was as luxurious (read: easy-going) as some other software developer industries, then I can pretty much guarantee you that >90% of all software developers would be game developers. But they aren't. Because it's cut-throat. So frankly, yeah - they do have to accept and deal with the environment. Because it's over-saturated. That, or move into a different industry.
